minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs)

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is proud to be part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care across the health system. mNPRs set the minimum number of nurses providing care to patients on a given unit.

In British

Columbia, mNPRs are developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) and health organizations.

Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Within the context of a primary health care with a population health approach, and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and Code of Ethics for registered nurses, the established vision and values of the organization, and the Canadian Community of Health Nursing Standards.

The Community Health

Nurse provides a full continuum of public health, prevention and health promotion services to enhance the optimal health, well-being and safety of clients by identifying and prioritizing wellness needs and developing and maintaining community partnerships to provide health promotion, advocacy,



counseling, education, assessment, referral and intervention in a variety of community based settings in the rural remote setting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education &

Experience

Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Training in public health nursing, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid BC Driver’s License. Local area travel requires the use of a personal vehicle for which mileage will be reimbursed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge and practice of public health nursing theory, within a primary health care and population health approach.

Comprehensive knowledge of the BCCNM standards for nursing practice.

Comprehensive knowledge of evidence based nursing practice related to childhood and adolescence.

Demonstrated ability to counsel clients and their families.

Demonstrated leadership skills.

Working knowledge of immunization protocols.

Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system.

Demonstrated ability to critically read and utilize current health research in evidence based practice.





Demonstrated ability to work independently and interdependently and make sound nursing practice decisions.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
