About the Program

The CDVMP is a partnership between Lakehead University and the University of Guelph established to deliver the Ontario Veterinary College’s (OVC) accredited Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) curriculum to students from Northern Ontario. This program is intended to contribute to addressing the long‑standing shortage of veterinarians serving northern and rural communities. The program commenced in Fall 2025 at OVC, with the inaugural Lakehead‑based student cohort scheduled to begin in Thunder Bay in September 2027 following completion of the purpose‑built and renovated facilities required for program delivery.
These appointments represent an important stage in the department’s development and offer an opportunity for faculty and staff to contribute to the academic, research, and operational foundations required for the successful implementation of this collaborative professional program.
