Purpose of Job
As a Sound Designer, your responsibilities include crafting, developing, producing and integrating the sound environment for video games and other visual media. Your expertise in sound and passion for video games in particular enable you to build captivating soundscapes, providing players and spectators with an immersive experience. You play a key role in bringing the creative vision to life, working in collaboration with senior audio staff and the game design team.
Responsibilities
- Designing and editing engaging sound assets for use in video games, trailers and other visual media, in respect to the project’s style and creative direction.
- Integrating sound assets in audio middleware (Wwise, FMOD) and game engines (Unreal, Unity, custom game engines).
- Designing dynamic mixing hierarchies and audio systems in both stereo and surround environments.
- Syncing and mixing audio to linear media.
- Testing, finding and fixing audio related bugs.
- Maintaining a familiarity with basic scripting as it pertains to game audio and workflow improvement.
- Working collaboratively, attending meetings with the team and external partners.
- Contributing to documentation, project tracking and procedures.
- Executing recording sessions inside and outside of the studio.
Education and Experience
- Degree in a discipline related to the position (sound design, recording, music).
- Experience having worked on at least two completed games.
- Or have an impressive portfolio/demo.
Competences and Qualities
- You show excellent creativity in sound creation.
- You are proficient in using a DAW (Reaper and/or Pro Tools)
for sound design purposes, in sync with visual material.
- You are creative, curious, humble, positive at accepting constructive criticism and a great team player.
- You work efficiently and are time conscious.
- You are good at managing stress, respecting shifting timelines and schedules.
- You have a sharpened sense of organization, resourcefulness and autonomy.
- You are positive in nature.
- You are fluent in French and English.
- You are passionate about video games.
- You have a good understanding of the audio pipeline working with Wwise and can execute basic integration tasks in at least one game engine (Unreal or Unity).

- Coding skills.
- Knowledge of source control (Git, SVN, Perforce).
- Wwise training certification.
Duration and Schedule
- Permanent employment.
- 40 hours per week.
- The selected candidate will work in person at SIDE Montreal’s studio.
