Beacon Hill Wealth Management
Victoria
If you've spent years in public practice grinding through tax seasons and you're ready to use that expertise differently — advising rather than preparing, building rather than billing — this is that move.
Beacon Hill Wealth Management is a dual-registered (BCSC/SEC) portfolio management firm with over $600 million in assets under management — and growing fast. We specialize in cross-border Canada–US wealth management, working with Americans building lives in Canada and Canadians with ties to the US — clients whose financial lives don't fit neatly on one side of the border.
We're hiring an experienced cross-border CPA for a role that doesn't really exist anywhere else: one seat combining tax advisory, firm finance, and regulatory compliance — with a genuine leadership track to match. The person who owns this role will grow into the firm's senior cross-border tax planner, CFO, and Chief Compliance Officer.
WHO YOU ARE
You're a US CPA with 5–10 years of cross-border Canada–US tax experience. Canadian CPA designation is an asset. You've sat across from clients and untangled genuinely hard problems — residency determinations, treaty tie-breaker positions, retirement accounts straddling the border, departure tax, FBAR and FATCA compliance — and explained them in plain English.
You're the person who catches the error everyone else missed. You don't wait to be told what's next; you see what needs doing and you do it. When something lands on your desk, it's handled — and people around you know it will be.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Your foundation:
- Oversee the firm's financial operations — managing our bookkeeper and working alongside our external CPA
- Manage quarterly GST filings and prepare audit working papers for our external auditor
- Work alongside our CCO on the compliance backbone of the firm — operating in both the BCSC and SEC regulatory environments: regulatory filings, Form ADV updates, policy and procedures manual maintenance, AML/ATF program administration, trade pre-clearance, KYC documentation reviews, the compliance calendar, and annual board reporting
- Guide prospective clients — primarily Americans relocating to Canada — through pre-arrival tax planning and their transition to Beacon Hill
- Field cross-border tax questions from existing clients and contribute to their ongoing planning
As you grow:
- Quarterback planning implementation with clients' external CPAs — we advise, we don't prepare returns, so collaboration is the job
- Write cross-border tax content for a national audience across our publishing and education platforms
- Build the firm's internal cross-border tax curriculum so the entire team can speak the language
Where it leads, this role is built to grow into three seats:
- Senior Cross-Border Tax Planner — the firm's technical authority on Canada–US planning, leading the advisory practice as it scales
- CFO — full ownership of firm finance, reporting, and regulatory capital
- Chief Compliance Officer — we'll fund and support the NI 31-103 proficiency path (Canadian Securities Course and the Chief Compliance Officers Qualifying Exam), and your compliance work at the firm builds the regulatory experience the role requires
This is a real succession plan with a defined timeline — not a carrot.
WHAT WE OFFER
- $100,000 – $120,000 base salary plus performance bonuses
- Four weeks' vacation from day one
- No tax season. Read that again.
We advise on planning year-round — nobody here works until midnight in April. No six-day weeks from February to June. No stacking 80 returns on your desk while you eat dinner at your keyboard. You'll use the same cross-border expertise you built in public practice, but you'll use it to actually think — advising clients on complex planning, not racing through compliance deadlines.
- Competitive benefits package
- Course and designation costs covered, including the CCO qualification path
- Direct mentorship from a dual-designated founder (CPA, CA / CPA (CO), CIM) with 20+ years of cross-border practice
- A small, sharp team in Victoria, BC — you'll work directly with the partners and the advisory team, not through layers of management
- A growing firm with a up-to-date tech stack and clients across North America
WHERE YOU'LL WORK
Our lovely and comfortable office, centrally located in a heritage home on the periphery of downtown Victoria. We offer parking, a full chef's kitchen and a positive environment.
