About The Role

We are seeking an exceptional Director of Data Engineering to join McKesson Technology US Pharmaceutical Distribution (USPD) Decision Intelligence organization. This leadership role is pivotal in driving the design, development, and optimization of USPD data products that support strategic business initiatives. The Director will set the technical vision for data architecture, oversee large-scale data solutions, and manage high-performing teams dedicated to building creative data platforms.

This position requires a blend of deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and proven leadership capabilities to deliver high-impact data solutions that empower critical business decisions across our USPD portfolio.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with stakeholders across various functions, including operations, data science, analytics, and IT, to ensure data capabilities align with business objectives. They will also oversee data governance, security, and best practices, ensuring compliance and operational excellence. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of data engineering within a leading healthcare organization, leveraging cutting-edge technologies and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Qualifications





Candidates should possess a minimum of 12+ years of professional experience in related IT fields, with at least 4+ years in leadership, planning, and communication roles. A master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent field is required. Relevant certifications such as Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, and Databricks certifications are highly preferred.

Experience in regulated industries like healthcare, financial services, or manufacturing is advantageous.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Microsoft Azure data services ecosystem, including Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Data Lake Storage, Event Hubs, and Cosmos DB. Advanced proficiency with Databricks platform and analytics workflows is essential. Strong knowledge of modern data architectures, scalable Lakehouse models, and AI-driven data observability practices is required.

Additionally, proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Scala, SQL, and .NET is necessary. Exceptional communication skills, technical leadership, and the ability to evaluate new technologies rapidly are critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities

- Partner with executives, business leaders, and technology stakeholders to define and execute the data architecture vision and strategic roadmap.
- Drive innovation in data engineering practices, emerging technologies, and platform capabilities to maintain a competitive edge.
- Establish data engineering standards, best practices, and governance frameworks across the organization to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable, AI-ready data products leveraging the Microsoft Azure ecosystem, ensuring productive data ingestion, transformation, and storage.
- Lead advanced implementation of Databricks for large-scale data processing, machine learning workflows,



and real-time analytics.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of data engineering directors and technical specialists.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Data Science, Analytics, IT, and Business Intelligence teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Develop talent programs, technical career pathways, and initiatives to foster engineering excellence and continuous learning.
- Lead the delivery of USPD data engineering products, ensuring high uptime, optimal performance, and cost efficiency.
- Implement comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and incident response capabilities for mission-critical data systems.
- Partner with the Enterprise Data Platform team to implement automation, AI accelerators, and DevOps practices to enhance deployment speed and operational reliability.
- Manage technology budgets, vendor relationships, and strategic partnerships to optimize total cost of ownership.
- Leverage AI in data engineering lifecycle, accelerate code generation, and design robust data pipelines supporting petabyte-scale data ingestion, transformation, and distribution.
- Ensure data platform security, compliance, and performance optimization across all environments.
