Position: Data & Insights Analyst Status: Full time, permanent Flexible work options are available, subject to an approved telework agreement

- Hybrid work is available for employees residing within the Vancouver, Coast and Mountains (VCM) region and enables employees to telework from their home up to 3 days a week with in office days on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The initial salary for this position will start at the beginning of the listed salary range with the opportunity to advance up the pay grid in annual increments. Reporting directly to the Manager, Digital Analytics, the Data & Insights Analyst uses a blend of analytical, mathematical and technical skills to produce data-driven insights that drive business results at Destination BC and for BC’s tourism industry.

The Data & Insights Analyst will lead medium to large scale projects undertaking fully independent professional data analysis of tourism statistics (e.g. economic indicators), implementing components of Destination BC’s Data & Analytics Strategy and contributing to the success of Destination BC and BC’s tourism industry which consists of 19,748 tourism-related businesses and employs 149,900 tourism employees. The position turns tourism, business, and partner data into clear, actionable insights that support strategic and operational decision-making.



Leads data analysis and/or data science projects by defining project scope and objectives, determining data requirements, and translating findings into actionable recommendations for program and partner decision-making.

Provides leadership in identifying and prioritizing data and insights that support Destination BC programs and BC’s tourism industry. Applies statistical, analytical, and data visualization techniques to model complex business problems, identify opportunities, develop scalable analytical solutions, and communicate actionable insights to diverse audiences Provides expert advice, including recommendations and briefings, to Destination BC’s Executive team and senior management, based on analytical findings, to influence strategic and operational decisions. Prepares highly technical and science-based reports and documents (i.e. ministry submissions, standards of practice, internal briefing notes, feasibility reports, evaluation reports, presentations) and other project management documents.

Researches and evaluates current data science practices, including techniques and tools in machine learning, deep learning and artificial intelligence. Participates in stakeholder consultations to define program priorities, key performance indicators, and resolve conflicts. Promotes, builds and maintains working relationships with internal and external partners, and stakeholders (i.e. government ministries, government agencies, tourism industry regions, communities, and sector organizations) to achieve program or project objectives.

Applies scientific and analytical techniques and tools, and interpretation of findings which result in significant and long-term impacts to work unit objectives and operations of programs for the organization. Builds data literacy across Destination BC by promoting effective use of analytics, communicating insights through data visualization techniques, and supporting data-informed decision-making. Develops and improves dashboards, reports, briefing materials, and repeatable analytical workflows that support trusted and consistent insight delivery.

Designs and delivers user-centred reports, dashboards, visualizations, presentations, and briefings that transform complex data into clear, actionable insights for technical and non-technical audiences through effective storytelling and data visualization.



Bachelor’s degree in data analytics/science, computer science or related field and no formal work experience

- Diploma in data analytics/science, computer science or related field and 6 months’ related experience
- Certificate or coursework in data analytics/science, computer science or related field and 1 year of related experience
- Related experience includes experience in a data analytics, data scientist or data engineering role. Minimum 3 years’ experience with using business intelligence tools, specifically Power BI, Tableau, DOMO, AWS, Azure, SQL, R, or Python. Minimum 3 years’ experience with using data processing tools, such as JSON, databases, data lakes, and/or CSV. Minimum 3 years’ experience working with diverse data sources to develop dashboards, reports, and key performance indicators using business intelligence tools. Ability to synthesize multiple data sources into clear, credible, and actionable insights for decision-makers. Ability to build practical, maintainable reporting and analytics solutions that others can understand and visualize the underlying data. Ability to understand and convey complex results to technical and non-technical audiences. Knowledge of data management practices, common data quality issues, validation, and documentation approaches. Ability to translate business challenges into measurable analytical questions, identifying and applying relevant real-world metrics and data sources to generate actionable insights.

Experience working with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate requirements into meaningful data analytics solutions Experience using third party data providers, such as BC Stats, Stats Canada and/or Flight Reservations.

Experience in tourism, destination marketing, travel, hospitality, economic development, or similar sectors Experience with Geographic Information System (GIS), including applications and programming.

Experience interpreting and applying advanced mathematics, scientific rules and methods to solve problems and/or to create predictive modelling.

Experience with emerging analytics and AI-enabled capabilities. Ability to use data friendly computer language (i.e. SQL, R, Phyton) to manipulate data and draw insights from large multi-dimensional data sets.
