About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to provide operational support, administration, maintenance, monitoring, and performance optimization for critical Ministry applications and enterprise database environments.

The successful candidate will work across Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and/or IBM DB2 environments, supporting highly available and mission-critical systems. This role will collaborate closely with application, infrastructure, development, architecture, vendor, and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Administer and support enterprise SQL Server, Oracle, and DB2 database environments.

- Monitor database health, availability, performance, storage, and reliability.

- Perform database troubleshooting, maintenance, patching, upgrades, migrations, refreshes, and environment setup.

- Configure and maintain SQL Server Failover Clustering and Always On Availability Groups.

- Perform database performance tuning, including queries, indexes, execution plans, and server resources.

- Implement and maintain backup, recovery, high-availability, and disaster-recovery solutions.

- Manage database security, user access, roles, permissions, encryption, and compliance requirements.

- Support production, development, testing, and disaster recovery environments.

- Participate in change, release, deployment, patching, and incident-management activities.

- Assess and test technical Change Requests (CRQs) and participate in release implementations.

- Support application modernization, database migrations, infrastructure upgrades, and hybrid/cloud initiatives.

- Develop technical documentation, runbooks, procedures, reports, and knowledge-transfer materials.

- Collaborate with developers, architects, QA, project managers, and other cross-functional teams.





- Support REST API integrations and ensure compliance with OPS security standards and policies.

Must Haves

- Strong hands-on SQL Server Administration experience, particularly with SQL Server 2019, 2022, and 2025.

- Experience designing, configuring, and maintaining SQL Server Failover Clustering.

- Strong hands-on experience with Always On Availability Groups, including setup, monitoring, failover, and troubleshooting.

- Hands-on experience with at least one of:
- Oracle 19c

- IBM DB2 on Windows

- IBM DB2 on z/OS

- Experience designing and implementing REST API integrations and best practices.

- Strong knowledge of database administration, troubleshooting, security, configuration, and recovery.

- Experience with application monitoring, middleware, and enterprise application support.

- Experience with change management and release management for large-scale applications.

- Ability to work effectively in a highly team-oriented, cross-functional environment.

- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.

- 5 days onsite at either 222 Jarvis St., Toronto or 33 King West, Oshawa.

Nice to Haves

- Strong database performance tuning experience, including query, index, and server optimization.

- Advanced backup and recovery / HA-DR experience.

- Experience supporting large-scale government or enterprise applications.

- Knowledge of Windows Server, Red Hat Linux (RHEL), and/or mainframe environments.

- Experience with Oracle Multitenant, Oracle Enterprise Manager, or DB2/zOS.

- Experience with cloud, virtualization, and hybrid infrastructure.

- Automation and scripting experience for database administration.

- Experience with enterprise monitoring and management tools.

- Relevant SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, or related certifications.
