Summary The Director, Construction is responsible for developing and expanding Norseman Structures’ construction capacity to support growth in industrial project sales.
The role will build and manage the people, subcontractor network, systems and processes required to safely and efficiently execute projects across Canada. This includes developing internal construction leadership and field resources, establishing reliable regional subcontractor capacity, improving project planning and execution, and ensuring construction projects achieve safety, schedule, quality, financial and risk management expectations.
The Director, Construction will work closely with Sales, Project Management, Engineering, Manufacturing and Supply Chain to ensure Norseman has the construction capability required to pursue and successfully deliver larger and more complex projects.

Key Accountabilities
Construction Capacity Development
- Develop and execute a plan to expand Norseman’s construction capacity in priority markets.
- Build a scalable mix of internal field resources and qualified subcontractors.
- Develop regional contractor and trade relationships to support projects across Canada.
- Establish processes for qualifying, onboarding, managing and evaluating subcontractors.
- Identify future labour, supervision, equipment and contractor requirements based on the project pipeline.
- Develop construction leadership and field supervision capability to support increasing project volume.
Project Execution
- Provide oversight and leadership for construction projects from pre-construction through completion.
- Ensure appropriate construction plans, schedules, budgets, resources and subcontractors are established prior to mobilization.
- Monitor project performance and address issues affecting safety, cost, schedule, quality or customer expectations.
- Identify and manage construction risks related to safety, schedule, cost, subcontractor performance, site conditions and execution strategy.
- Ensure significant project risks are identified early, appropriately mitigated and escalated when required.
- Improve consistency in estimating, planning, mobilization, field execution and project closeout.
- Ensure lessons learned from completed projects are incorporated into future execution.
Pre-Construction & Business Development Support
- Work with Sales and Project Management during opportunity development to assess construction strategy, capacity, execution risk and commercial exposure.
- Support construction estimating, execution planning, subcontractor pricing and risk assessment for proposals.
- Identify delivery approaches that improve Norseman’s competitiveness and ability to pursue larger industrial projects.
- Participate in customer and partner discussions where construction expertise strengthens the opportunity.
Safety,
Quality & Performance
- Ensure construction activities meet Norseman HSE requirements and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Establish clear expectations and accountability for subcontractor and field performance.
- Develop and track key construction metrics including safety, schedule, labour productivity, cost performance and subcontractor performance.
- Drive continuous improvement in construction methods, systems and project delivery.
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop Construction Managers, Site Supervisors and other construction personnel as applicable.
- Establish clear roles, responsibilities and performance expectations within the construction organization.
- Work with HR to identify, recruit, develop and retain key construction personnel required to support growth.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of industrial construction and/or project management experience, preferably in mining, oil & gas or heavy industrial environments.
- Demonstrated experience building and managing construction teams and subcontractor networks.
- Strong understanding of industrial construction planning, estimating, contracting and field execution.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and manage construction, commercial and execution risk.
- Experience managing projects across multiple locations or jurisdictions.
- Strong commercial understanding of construction cost, productivity, contracting, risk and project profitability.
- Engineering, construction management or related technical education is preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.
- PMP, P.Eng. or other relevant skilled designation is an asset.
