McGregor Child Care is an independent non-profit child care located at 1155 West Broadway on the 5th floor of Vancouver Community College Broadway campus.

McGregor Child Care provides care for children from 0 – 5 years of age. We are focused on providing care that is in harmony with current best practices, the image of the child, attachment theory and the ECEBC Code of Ethics.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Program Supervisor, the Infant &

- Toddler Early Childhood Educator will work directly with children aged 6-37 months in a group setting. With support from the program Supervisor, the Early Childhood Educator will use their knowledge and skills to assist in creating an environment that supports children’s developmental growth and well-being.

Duties And Responsibilities

Administration

- Follow all McGregor’s policies & procedures, licensing and legal requirements.
- Follow all direction provided by the Supervisor and/or Manager.
- Ensure all safety and supervision standards are implemented and maintained.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the centre, children, families and staff.
- Complete all required daily shift duties with efficiency.
- Arrange for shift coverage when unable to work a scheduled shift.
- Preform other duties as directed.

Teamwork
- Work respectfully in partnerships with families and community partners.
- Establish and maintain respectful, positive, collaborative, supportive working relationships with all co-workers.
- Work with reasonable autonomy and independence in arranging materials and ideas for the children, under the direction of the Program Supervisor.

Program Development
- Notice, record and collect children’s interactions with their surroundings, materials activities, discoveries and growth.
- Create, share and display pedagogical narration.




- Arrange the physical set up of the centre and maintain a stimulating, neat, orderly, safe and clean environment.
- All interactions must align with the ECEBC Code of Ethics.

Child Growth &
- Development

- Interact directly with the children, providing and creating positive attachments.
- Understand each child’s unique personality and respond and replicate a caring and compassionate relationship with collaborative dialogue and actions.
- Provide each child with opportunities and supports to navigate all developmental domains with a focus on self-help skills, Language and communication and development in ethe areas of physical, cognitive and social and emotional development.
- Establish transparent boundaries, consistent and simple expectations and limits with children.

Qualifications

Post Basic ECE

Additional Qualifications

- Early Childhood Educator and Infant &
- Toddler Certificate to Practice.
- At least one year experience working with children in a licenced child care setting.
- Current First Aid certificate.
- Consent to Criminal Record Check.
- Ability to multi-task and reassess priorities throughout the day.
- Statement from medical practitioner indicating good physical and psychological ability to work with children.
- Proof of immunization and tuberculosis vaccinations.
- Positive team player; flexible, punctual, reliable with good communication skills.
- Shows motivation when working with children and in their growth and success.
- Enjoys communicating and interacting with children.

Working conditions

All work will be conducted on site with fieldtrip outings in the surrounding community. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7.5 hours per day. Start and end times of each shift will vary between starting at 7:30 am and ending at 5:30 pm.

McGregor. McGregor is closed for statutory holidays and weekends. McGregor is also closed for a short period over the winter holidays.

Wages





Hours wages for this position are from $23.87 per hour to $25.72 per hour.

Current Wage

Enhancement funds offered by the government of BC are in addition to the wages mentioned.

Workload The Infant &

- Toddler program has 12 children aged 6 months to 37 moths of age. Staff are required to work with all children throughout the day. Staff are entitled up to a one-hour break. Break times may be split into shorter amounts that equal up to one hour due to operational requirements.

Holidays

Paid vacation time is accessible after the probation period. Vacation accruals start at one and two thirds working days vacation for each month (20 days for a full year) for the first partial year worked. Yearly vacation accruals increase with years of service.

Regular full-time staff are entitled to join the BC Targeted Pension Plan with matching contributions of 4.25%.

Family Health and single dental care is provided with McGregor Child Care paying the full cost.

Additional Information

Physical requirements

All staff are expected to frequently interact, care for and play with the children. This includes lifting up to 30 lbs, bending while holding up to 30 lbs, frequent bending, sitting and lying on the floor, squatting, standing for long periods of time and light exercise such as running, dancing, throwing, kicking and jumping.

McGregor is an inclusive program

McGregor Child Care provides an inclusive program, providing early childhood experiences for children with extra support needs. These children may be children who have language and / or other developmental delays, physical, emotional or behavioral challenges, or exceptional health care needs.
