About the job:

Kent is looking for an Electrical Commissioning Specialist to support the Kearl In-Pit Tailings Area Project. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading day-to-day electrical commissioning activities in the field, managing teams of technicians, vendor representatives, and contractors to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.

The Electrical Commissioning

Specialist works closely with the Systems Completion Lead, construction teams, project leadership, and Operations to drive system commissioning, resolve technical and execution issues, and support the successful turnover of systems to Operations.

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

Commissioning Execution & Field Leadership

- Lead and coordinate day-to-day electrical commissioning activities in the field, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements and commissioning schedules.
- Plan, prioritize, and direct the activities of commissioning technicians, vendor representatives, and subcontractors to achieve commissioning, start-up, and system turnover objectives.
- Act as the designated Area Authority/Area Operator for commissioning activities within assigned areas, including the preparation, review, issuance, and control of work permits. Ensure all work is properly authorized, isolated, coordinated, and executed in accordance with site protected work practices, permit-to-work requirements, and commissioning procedures.
- Lead pre-commissioning, commissioning, energization, and start-up activities for electrical systems, including testing, verification, troubleshooting, and functional performance validation.
- Support completions team with system completions including turnover documentation, closing of punch list items, and deficiency tracking to support timely handover to Operations.
- Monitor commissioning progress and field execution, proactively identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving technical, safety, quality, and schedule issues.
- Coordinate commissioning activities with construction, completions, operations, engineering, and vendor teams to ensure work fronts are prepared and constraints are removed.
- Provide technical leadership and field guidance during testing, commissioning, and energization activities, ensuring compliance with approved procedures, specifications, and industry standards.

Operational Coordination

- Coordinate with commissioning, construction, QA/QC, and operations teams to meet electrical system priorities and critical path requirements
- Support the seamless transition of electrical systems from Project execution to Operations.
- Support construction and completions teams by providing technical expertise on complex electrical assemblies, installation practices, testing requirements, and quality control activities. Work collaboratively to identify and resolve deficiencies, facilitate system readiness,



and ensure equipment is prepared for commissioning and turnover.

Systems Completion/Commissioning Support Functions

- Act as a technical resource for electrical systems (e.g., power distribution, substations, switchgear, MCCs, grounding, lighting, and cabling)
- Utilize the Systems Completion Database (SCDB) to develop, manage, and close out commissioning check sheets, test records, and completion certificates, ensuring accurate documentation and timely system turnover.
- Where required, support development of commissioning documentation, including test procedures and method statements.
- Support implementation of project work management systems within electrical commissioning activities (e.g., permits, LUN, LOTO, Safety-in-Transition)

Performance, Compliance & HSSEQ

- Support tracking of system readiness, commissioning milestones, and KPIs
- Ensure commissioning activities comply with applicable codes, client specifications, and internal standards
- Support preparation of weekly commissioning reports, handover documentation, and lessons learned
- Apply commissioning lessons learned from previous projects to improve execution and safety performance
- Support implementation of quality and HSSEQ requirements and assist with the resolution of non-conformances or technical issues In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee’s skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:

- Technical Diploma, Journeyperson Trade Certification, or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related discipline. Equivalent combinations of trade qualifications, commissioning experience, leadership experience, and demonstrated industry expertise will also be considered
- Significant experience leading/supporting electrical commissioning, construction, or systems completion on oil & gas, energy, or industrial projects
- Working knowledge of electrical commissioning methodologies, completions systems, and turnover documentation (SCDB or equivalent)

Communication:

- Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication and skills.
