Position Summary The Industrial Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, commissioning, and continuous improvement of electrical, automation, and control systems within a highly automated manufacturing environment. This role plays a critical part in maintaining equipment reliability, production uptime, safety, and process performance. The Industrial Electrician works closely with Maintenance, Production, Engineering, and other departments to diagnose equipment issues, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and support improvements to electrical and automated manufacturing systems.

About You

- Work independently and make sound technical decisions while knowing when to escalate issues
- Troubleshoot complex electrical and automation issues under time-sensitive production conditions
- Work effectively in a hands-on manufacturing environment
- Prioritize multiple maintenance and production requirements
- Identify weaknesses in equipment or system design and implement practical improvements
- Evaluate downtime events, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
- Work collaboratively with production employees to identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, uptime, and repeatability
- Develop and follow preventative maintenance procedures
- Maintain accurate technical and maintenance documentation
- Learn and adapt to new manufacturing technologies and equipment
- Provide technical guidance, procedures, and knowledge transfer to other maintenance team members
- Maintain a professional and positive attitude in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Work additional hours, including overtime or off-shift support, based on business needs

Education & Experience

- Education:
- High school diploma required
- Completion of Electrician certificate, 309A or 442A (C of Q)
- Successful completion of apprenticeship

- Experience:

- 3–5 years of related industrial electrical experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working in a highly automated manufacturing environment.




- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining automated production equipment.
- Experience with PLCs, robotics, CNC equipment, and industrial control systems.
- Experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC platforms is an asset.
- Experience with Yaskawa robotics is an asset.
- Experience with MaintainX or similar computerized maintenance/work order systems is an asset.
- Previous experience in forging, forming, machining, or other high-automation manufacturing environments is an asset.

Knowledge

- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, controls, and automation
- Knowledge of PLC architecture, programming, troubleshooting, and interfacing
- Knowledge of Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC platforms
- Knowledge of HMI programming and machine interface systems
- Knowledge of industrial robotics and robot control systems, including Yaskawa
- Knowledge of safety PLC’s, machine safeguarding, and safety control architecture
- Knowledge of motion control and variable frequency drive (VFD) applications
- Knowledge of electrical code requirements, including the Ontario Electrical Safety Code
- Knowledge of CNC equipment and controls, including OKUMA, FUJI, and MIYANO equipment
- Knowledge of conventional and servo hydraulic systems used in piercing and forming processes
- Working knowledge of mechanical and pneumatic systems as they relate to automated equipment and controls
- Knowledge of preventative and predictive maintenance principles
- Knowledge of root-cause analysis and equipment reliability improvement
- Knowledge of industrial data collection, historical data archiving, and equipment monitoring systems
- knowledge of workplace health and safety legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures

Skills

- Strong electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Strong PLC troubleshooting and programming skills.
- Ability to develop, navigate, and maintain standardized PLC structures and programming.
- Ability to troubleshoot and program automated production lines both locally and through remote interaction.
- Strong HMI programming and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and program motion control and VFD applications.
- Ability to interface PLC systems with robotic equipment and other automated systems.
- Ability to integrate and troubleshoot machine safety systems and safety PLC architecture.
- Strong technical reading and interpretation skills, including electrical schematics and technical documentation.
- Strong mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.




- Strong computer skills and experience using maintenance/work order software.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
- Ability to work effectively with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams.

Working Conditions

- Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dirt, chemicals, heat, and industrial equipment.
- Regular exposure to automated machinery, electrical systems, and moving equipment.
- May require working at heights, in confined or restricted areas, or in other challenging manufacturing environments.
- Requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching, and working in a hands-on environment.
- May require overtime, off-shift, weekend, or emergency support based on production and business needs.
