The Executive

Search team leads recruitment for executive manager and senior official roles across the Alberta Public Service and supports the appointment of qualified candidates to boards of public agencies. Through strategic talent acquisition and trusted advisory services, the team helps attract and appoint leaders who shape public policy, organizational performance, and service delivery for Albertans.

Role Responsibilities

Help recruit and appoint the leaders who shape Alberta's public service.

Leadership matters. Every executive appointment influences the direction of ministries, agencies, and the services provided to Albertans.

The Executive Search team plays a critical role in identifying, attracting, and appointing exceptional leaders across the Alberta Public Service. Working with Deputy Ministers, Assistant Deputy Ministers, and other senior stakeholders, we deliver strategic recruitment processes that support leadership decisions across ministries, agencies, boards, and commissions.

As an Executive Search Consultant, you will lead complex recruitment mandates, provide trusted advice throughout the recruitment lifecycle, and manage sensitive stakeholder relationships. Your work will support executive and board appointments that influence organizational performance and public service outcomes.

As a member of the Executive Search team, you will:

- Lead executive recruitment competitions for executive manager, senior official, and public agency board positions.
- Partner with Deputy Ministers, Assistant Deputy Ministers, HR colleagues, and other senior leaders to understand organizational needs and develop recruitment strategies.
- Provide expert consultation on executive recruitment, assessment, selection, appointment, and talent management processes.
- Manage multiple complex recruitment projects and ensure timely delivery of services.
- Build and maintain robust relationships with executives, candidates, stakeholders, and HR colleagues across government.
- Support candidate sourcing, screening, assessment,



and succession-related considerations.
- Facilitate discussions and provide recommendations to support informed leadership decisions.
- Interpret and apply legislation, policy, directives, and governance requirements related to executive and board appointments.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance executive recruitment practices and recruitment services across the APS.

What We're Looking For

We’re seeking a trusted advisor who brings relevant recruitment, talent management, or strategic human resources experience and can provide sound guidance in sensitive, high-profile environments. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

- Experience in executive recruitment and search, talent acquisition, workforce planning, talent management, succession planning, or related strategic HR functions.
- Strong consulting, client service, and relationship management skills, including the ability to advise senior leaders and stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Political acuity and the ability to navigate complex organizational environments with sound judgment and discretion.
- Strong organizational and project management capabilities in complex, multi-stakeholder settings.
- An enterprise mindset, collaborative approach, and commitment to continuous improvement.

Qualifications

- University degree in a related field.
- 4-years of related experience in enterprise-level recruitment, talent management, assessment, or related human resources functions.

Assets

- Experience supporting executive-level recruitment or appointments.
- Experience working in the Government of Alberta or broader public sector.
- Knowledge of governance, recruitment, and appointment processes.”
