Power-Link Technologies Ltd. (PLT) is an Alberta-based electrical engineering and field services company. We commission utility substations, power generation facilities — natural gas, diesel, solar, wind and battery energy storage — and industrial plants across Western and Northern Canada. We're a team of roughly 30 engineers and field professionals, which means the person we hire will own real scope on day one instead of waiting three years for a turn.
We're looking for an Intermediate Commissioning Technologist to join our field services group and take a lead role on active projects. Executing pre-commissioning and commissioning on substation and generation projects — protection and control checks, functional testing, and energization support Protective relay testing and settings verification (SEL, GE, ABB, Schneider) using secondary injection test sets Primary and secondary equipment testing: CT/PT ratio and polarity, insulation resistance, contact resistance, breaker timing, transformer testing Point-to-point wiring verification, loop checks, and SCADA/RTU point verification with the client's control centre Writing and red-lining commissioning procedures, test forms and turnover packages — and producing reports a client can actually rely on Working directly with client representatives,
construction crews and OEM vendors on site Mentoring junior technologists and apprentices in the field 3–8 years of hands‑on electrical testing or commissioning experience ~ A diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, an EIT registration with APEGA, or a journeyman electrician ticket with substantial testing experience — we care more about what you can do at site than which door you came through ~ Practical experience with test equipment such as Omicron, Doble, or Megger ~ Valid Class 5 driver's licence and a clean driver's abstract ~ Willingness to travel to remote and fly‑in sites, including Northern Alberta and the Territories Assets, not requirements BESS, solar or generation commissioning experience The honest version of the travel This is a field role. Expect 75% travel, typically in rotations of 8/6, 7/7, 14,7 depending on project.
Some sites are fly-in only. Travel, accommodation and meals are covered, and we schedule with your life in mind wherever the project lets us. 35-65 per hour, depending on experience ~ Overtime and field premiums / LOA as applicable ~ Health spending account ~ Paid training, test equipment you won't fight with, and support toward NETA or ASET certification ~
