Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, School Finance, you will be responsible for providing advice, guidance and support to Superintendents, Principals and Vice Principals in order to establish and maintain financial controls; assisting in the development of training and information sessions; delivering training and information sessions to school administrative staff; providing guidance to new school administrators and school office staff regarding Board policies, procedures and practices; providing guidance to Principals on how to review regular budget reports, Schools Activity Funds, Petty Cash reports and reconciliations; ensuring optimal use of the board budget and school activity funds through timely review with school principals and superintendents; consolidating and analyzing school activity funds data for Public Sector Accounting Board; investigating and preparing detailed variance analysis of school activity funds to support financial statement balances; providing advice and guidance to schools facing an internal or external audit within the field office and to assist them in preparing for an internal and/or external audit; liaising with external auditors and communicate findings of variance analysis of school activity funds; updating and maintaining the Effective Practices manual and prepares draft finance procedures to ensure that they reflect changes in regulations and current best practices; other duties as assigned.
NOTE: Regular traveling will be required to the schools and field office locations. The successful applicant will work at the above location from 8:30am to 4:30pm, or as assigned.

Qualifications
- Degree in business, accounting or finance
- Must hold one of the following professional accounting designations: Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified General Accountant (CGA)
- Five (5) to seven (7) years’ accounting experience in progressively responsible positions, preferably in the public sector
- Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) accounting standards, Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Excellent analytical and report writing skills and attention to detail
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Working knowledge of budget process
- Intermediate level of Excel, Word and Financial Information System (FIS)
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, anti-racism, anti-oppression and working in a diverse school community and/or work environment.
Additional Skills & Assets
- Familiarity with Peel Systems such as Vista and Absence Management System
