Important Notice
This internship opportunity is offered by an IG Wealth Management Wealth Advisor, who is an independent contractor to IG Wealth Management. The selected candidate will not be employed by IGM Financial Inc. or IG Wealth Management Inc. but will be employed directly by the Wealth Advisor.
The Wealth
Advisor will be solely responsible for the employment relationship and all aspects of the internship, including supervision, compensation, work location, schedule and day-to-day responsibilities.
Position
This internship opportunity is ideal for students who want to learn more about financial planning, client relationships, entrepreneurship, and the business side of wealth management. As an intern, you’ll gain practical exposure to how a financial planning practice operates, how client relationships are built, and how financial planners help individuals and families plan for their future.
You’ll work under the supervision of a Wealth Advisor and may be involved in a variety of activities related to client service, practice management, financial planning support, and business development.
This is a full-time winter term position (January to April 2027) requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
Candidates must be eligible to work full-time for the entire duration of the program.
The expected annual base salary range (prorated for the term) for this role is $49,000 - $51,000, which is determined based on year of study, geographic location and candidate’s skills, knowledge and experience. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for paid time off.
What You’ll Do
During The Internship, You May Have The Prospect To
- Shadow a Wealth Advisor and learn about the day-to-day activities of a financial planning practice.
- Support client meeting preparation, follow-up, and documentation.
- Assist with organizing and updating client information and financial planning files.
- Learn about the financial planning process, including discovery, analysis, recommendations, implementation, and ongoing service.
- Support business development initiatives such as market research, community outreach, prospecting preparation, and client engagement activities.
- Contribute to practice management activities that help support an efficient and professional client experience.
- Build your understanding of investment, retirement, estate, tax, insurance, and wealth planning concepts.
- Participate in training, mentorship, and learning opportunities related to the financial planning profession.
- Support special projects based on the needs of the practice and your interests, skills, and academic background.
Responsibilities may be adapted based on the successful candidate’s experience, skills, academic background, licensing status, and applicable regulatory requirements.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Enrollment in a post-secondary program in financial planning, finance, accounting, business administration, commerce, economics, or a related field.
- A solid interest in financial planning, wealth management, entrepreneurship, or client-facing advisory work.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A client-focused mindset and an interest in making a positive impact in people’s lives.
- Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional workplace.
- Comfort working in a dynamic, relationship-driven setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with financial planning tools, CRM systems, data tools, or AI productivity tools is considered an asset.
