The South Health Campus Wellness Centre (WC) is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, & collaborative Assistant who enjoys food, cooking, & working with people. The WC connects people with information, resources, & programs to help them make health and wellness decisions.
The Wellness
Kitchen (WK), located within the WC, offers food and nutrition skill-building classes for patients, community members, & staff. Reporting to the Wellness Centre Manager & working closely with the Teaching Kitchen Coordinator & WC team, this position supports the preparation & delivery of in-person & virtual classes led by dietitians & other healthcare providers, while also assisting with daily Wellness Centre operations. The successful candidate works effectively both independently & as part of a small team & is committed to maintaining high standards of food safety, cleanliness, organization, & customer service.
Key responsibilities include: Purchasing and transporting groceries & kitchen supplies from local retail stores. Managing food & supply inventory, including stock rotation & monitoring expiry dates. Preparing ingredients for classes, including measuring & basic food preparation, following recipes & program guidelines.
Setting up kitchen equipment & workstations for demonstrations & classes. Supporting instructors & participants during classes. Managing kitchen linen inventory. Packaging, labeling, organizing, & storing leftover food.
Cleaning & sanitizing the kitchen, equipment, & work areas after classes. Maintaining a safe, clean, & organized teaching kitchen, including equipment maintenance, temperature monitoring, & inventory management.
Monitoring Wellness
Centre rooms & resources. Performing cleaning duties (e.g hoodfan, mirrors). Organizing book & magazine donations & community resource materials. Assisting with clerical duties such as photocopying & laminating.
Description
As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.

Required Qualifications
Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food,
supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.
Additional Required Qualifications
Minimum 1-year full time experience in a food service environment, commercial or household kitchen (other combinations of experience may be considered) within the last 3 years. Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for supply shopping multiple times per week. Familiarity and comfort in a grocery store to efficiently and accurately shop from a list of grocery items and distinguish between a variety of produce or grocery items with minimal direction.
Skill and ability to efficiently and accurately prepare food ingredients (measuring, knife skills) for multiple recipes, simple recipes, and safely use small and large household or commercial appliances (i.e. dishwasher, oven, stove top, microwave).
Experience with food inventory management - managing expiration dates, applying FIFO principles, minimizing waste, restocking groceries and supplies. Skill and ability to keep work environments tidy, organized, clean and sanitized as appropriate. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in English in person, by phone and email.
Ability to follow direction from supervisors and manager and contribute as a part of a team. Ability to follow established processes but demonstrate flexibility as required.
Functional ability using the following: Outlook (email), Word, MS Teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Grade 12 High School Diploma or above.
Food Safe
Certification or equivalent in Alberta. Completion of WHMIS training.
