We're hiring a Geomatics Specialist for a long-term contract at a secure federal government facility in the Ottawa area. It's a combined field and office position - you collect the data on site, then maintain the models, drawings and spatial records that come out of it.
The contract runs to 2031. You'll be based on site rather than in our office, working alongside the facility management team.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Field
- Building interior and exterior capture using laser measurement tools and scanning
- Topographic survey of site features, buildings, utilities and infrastructure
- Plan and schedule site validation work, including advance notification to the client
- Locate and record changes as construction and maintenance work happens
Support survey control work: traverse, GNSS, digital levelling
Office
- Maintain 3D models and 2D CAD for site buildings to the client's technical standard
- Produce General Floor Plans, Area Measurement drawings and Fire Evacuation Plans
- Maintain engineering site drawings and the civil site data record
- Maintain an equipment registry with unique IDs tied to the spatial data
- File engineering documents against the correct assets
- Produce a monthly spatial change report
- Run all CAD output through the client's QC checker and clear errors before submission
WHAT YOU NEED
Security clearance - mandatory:
- Canadian citizenship
- Able to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada SECRET clearance
- Requires a verifiable ten-year residence and employment history. Extended periods outside Canada will make clearance difficult or impossible.
- If you can't meet this, we're unable to consider your application.
Qualifications - set by the contract, not flexible:
- Civil Engineering Technology diploma and/or Architectural Technology diploma
- 5 years in field data collection and survey control network field data collection
- 5 years using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Map, AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit to create, edit, convert and produce spatial data
- 5 years in 3D model management and development using Revit and BricsCAD BIM
- 2 years collecting building field data, including laser measurement tools, for updating and maintaining records
- 2 years in a multi-disciplinary engineering or technical environment
- Certification by an accredited provincial association of technicians and technologists (C.Tech or C.E.T.)
- Valid Ontario G license and reliable transportation
- You'll need to provide copies of all licenses and certificates before starting - the client requires them on file.
Assets:
- Proficiency with total station, robotic total station and GNSS. You'll have support from a licensed surveyor on the control and legal side, so this is helpful rather than essential.
- Terrestrial laser scanning and point cloud registration
- Leica Infinity, Trimble Business Center or equivalent
- Experience on government, institutional or industrial sites
- Bilingual English/French
WHO THIS SUITS
Someone comfortable working on their own. You'll be on site most of the time without a crew around you, so you need to organize your own work, make sensible calls in the field, and keep records without being chased for them. There are defined turnaround times and quality checks on everything you produce, so accuracy matters more than speed.
WHAT WE OFFER
- $70,000 - $90,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications
- A long-term contract running to 2031
- Benefits
- Leica and Trimble instruments, laser scanning
- Real ownership of a file rather than being one crew member among many
