We seek 2 experienced professionals to fill the role of Health & Safety Advisor.
This Full-time Contract position is based at the Touquoy mine site located approximately 1-hour northeast of Halifax, near Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia. The mine is restarting Mill Operations.
Our Health & Safety Advisor will join a dedicated Health and Safety team. Reporting to the Health and Safety superintendent, your role will provide leadership; help set direction and oversight for all matters related to Health and Safety at the Moose River Consolidated Project Touqouy Mine.
The Opportunity
- Provide visible health and safety leadership across all operations.
- Support operational and functional teams with practical health and safety guidance across Operations, Projects, and Exploration.
- Assist with field-based risk assessments and Job Hazard Analyses to identify hazards and recommend effective controls.
- Support incident management processes, including guidance, reporting, investigation support, and follow-up actions.
- Monitor compliance with health and safety plans, legislation, standards, and site requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, workplace interactions, and visual leadership activities to improve safety performance.
- Provide on-site safety support for routine and high-risk work, including verification of PPE use and safe work practices.
- Support emergency response planning, training, testing, equipment inspection, and readiness activities.
- Contribute to health and safety training program delivery and maintain workforce training records as required.
- Review HSE performance data to identify trends and recommend proactive improvement actions.
- Promote a positive safety culture by influencing safe behaviours, building trust, and encouraging personal accountability.
- Manage own time, resources, and professional development while supporting Health & Safety team objectives and other assigned duties.
Our successful candidate will demonstrate the following:
- A personal commitment to behavior consistent with St Barbara's Values including honesty and integrity, respect, working together, delivering to promise and striving to do better
- Must hold a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license (or recognized equivalent) with no restrictions or suspensions and have an insurable driving record.
- Able to safely operate light duty truck on and off road.
- 1 to 3 years of practical experience guiding Health & Safety initiatives
- Degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or a related field), or an equivalent combination of extensive industry experience
- Comprehensive understanding of the development, implementation and monitoring of H&S; systems.
- Competent in Risk Management processes related to H&S; practices.
- Certified in First Aid/CPR (Intermediate Level)
- Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or other recognized health and safety designation is considered an asset
- Experience working in remote locations, and knowledge/ exposure to Mining/ Mill Operations, Refineries, and or similar equipment is considered an asset; but not required.
