As the Health, Safety and Environment Manager at Drax, your primary responsibility will be to oversee and manage all aspects of health, safety, and environmental compliance at the facility. This role involves collaborating closely with the site leadership team to identify key priorities and develop strategic solutions aligned with overall business objectives. You will report directly to the Vice President of HSE, ensuring that your initiatives not only meet regulatory requirements but also foster a culture of safety and sustainability within the organization.

Your day-to-day duties as an HSE Manager:

- Cultivate a “Safety First” culture with a “Zero Harm” mindset.
- Support and implement the company's safety culture, policies, and procedures.
- Oversee risk assessments and mitigation measures on-site prior to the commencement of projects.
- Implement corrective and preventive measures to ensure a safe and healthy environment at the organization’s sites.
- Develop proposals for corrective or preventive measures and investigate, analyze, and routinely review accidents or near misses within the organization.
- Through robust leadership and by setting an example,



ensure that the company’s safety policies are adhered to at the site level.
- Enforce work safety permits as necessary at all sites.
- Ensure that employees are well-informed about the organization’s working, environmental, and safety policies.
- Encourage teamwork at all levels of the organization, particularly across functions, while empowering individuals to contribute.
- Foster an environment of data-driven continuous improvement in all aspects of the departments.
- Engage all department employees in safety issues and establish high personal standards through a highly visible, hands-on management style.
- Ensure that regular emergency response procedures are effective by providing written policies and ensuring that managers and employees are always prepared.
- Manage key external interfaces, including primary responsibility for WSBC compliance, consultants, legislation, and, where appropriate, local community representatives.
- Maintain safety statistics and create reports that reflect site performance for relevant parties, such as upper management.
- Responsible for implementing the DBI Safety policy and safety documentation at the designated location.
- Collaborate with the VP of HSE to drive continuous improvements in safety performance across the designated location.
- Assist in the development of DBI management systems and, in partnership with the site team, develop site-level risk assessments and operating procedures.
- Coordinate with operations, engineering, and maintenance departments, and collaborate with HR on health policy development and implementation.
- Ensure adherence to budgeted financial management and controls for all safety activities.

What you’ll bring: To excel in this vital role, you’ll need:

- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a safety management role.
- A CRSP or a Bachelor's degree in fields such as safety or environmental sciences, occupational health and safety management, environmental health, environmental engineering, or public health is preferred.
- One to two years of experience in operations, maintenance, and engineering.
- A credible and strong leader with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.




- Strong teamwork ethic with the willingness to travel between sites and respond during off-hours in the event of an onsite incident.
- Capable of climbing ladders and stairs and working outdoors in various environments.
- Experience in conducting a variety of training classes.
- Ability to mentor, coach, encourage, hold team members accountable, and set high standards in all aspects of the department’s work.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to apply sound business and commercial knowledge in a production setting.
- Proficient in developing technical documents.
- Certification by WSBC is a plus.
