Location: CentralZone,Halifax Infirmary Robie Street Entrance - QEII Department: OPCZ Med/Surg Social Work CasualHourly PT long-assignment(80%) x 1 Posting Closing Date: 11-Sep-26 Reporting to the Program Manager of the Med/Surg Heart Health department within the Rehabilitation & Supportive Care Services Portfolio, The healthcare social worker provides a diverse range of interventions to clients and their families, enabling them to achieve their optimal level of functioning and health. These interventions include psychosocial assessments, adjustment therapy, supportive therapy, crisis counselling, resource counselling, and discharge planning and case management.

Workers are actively involved in advocacy, education, program planning, consultation and collaboration on behalf of individuals/groups within the institution and community. The role is multifaceted and dynamic, requiring each Social Worker to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams.

Worker is a licensed professional who practices in accordance with a set of National/Provincial Standards and Code of Ethics and Department Procedures, Policies and Standards.

Worker is responsible for supervising undergraduate and graduate students in work placements.

Worker provides consultation based upon an advanced level of education (MSW) which includes an integrated knowledge of the social, structural, emotional, psychological and cultural factors that affect well-being. It incorporates entry level practitioners to those with advanced levels of practice. This range is associated with the education level, years of experience and professional development of workers within the department.

This position works within the Halifax Infirmary Emergency Department. Master’s degree in social work from a recognized university Two (2)



years of clinical experience as a clinical Social Worker required Strong counselling and communication skills This position works within the Halifax Infirmary Emergency Department Awareness of local community resources and agencies an asset Knowledge of issues related to family violence, sexual abuse, addictions, grief and loss, end of life, disability, crisis intervention, caregiving and continuum of care and intervention skills that come from knowledge of theoretical frameworks/approaches to practice Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred If offered employment, they will be placed on the Health Care Social Worker (Developmental) scale. Part-time long assignment position; 60 hours bi-weekly Shifts are 8 hours over a 7 day per week schedule, including weekend & holidays. 40.18 - $55.49 Hourly Successful candidates may be eligible for our advantages package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
