Brandt is currently looking for a Heavy Equipment Technician - Material Handling for our Ottawa location.

The Heavy Equipment

Technician - Material Handling independently performs basic/complex diagnostics, service maintenance and repair work on customer and/or dealer-owned equipment on an efficient basis. Resolves customer issues to their satisfaction on a timely basis. Maintain a quality of work metric of 98% (% of work completed right the first time). Accurately record all work done for customer and warranty records.

Must maintain thorough understanding of Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S;) systems and standards, and a commitment to a safe working environment, ensuring all employees and customers are kept safe at all times. Ensure knowledge and compliance of proper procedure for disposal of hazardous waste material. Perform all service tasks as assigned by the Material Handling Service Manager or the Material Handling Service Department Foreman.

Participate in Service Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge. This may also include training related industry-specific technologies. Mentor and oversee apprentices.

Diagnostic And

Mechanical, Electrical, Or Hydraulic Repair Diagnose and repair all related systems (disassembly, assembly, and repair).



Perform customer, manufacturer, or government inspections on equipment. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment (such as forklifts, stackers, electric carts, electric tow trucks, transporters).

Utilize drill presses, grinders, air compressors, and common hand/ power tools to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on material handling equipment. Prepare all reports and forms required in conjunction with job assignments (Work Order submitted immediately at completion of job). Outstanding knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems and propane systems.

Demonstrated diagnostic skills to understand mechanical and electrical systems of battery and engine powered material handling equipment.

Experience with the use of hand tools and measuring devices, and electrical/electronic diagnostic tools/measurements. Knowledge and experience with industrial equipment that includes lifting / rigging, maintaining, dismantling, and installing machinery and industrial mechanical service equipment. Strong communication skills, showing an appreciation of customer needs.

Trade qualification (Heavy Equipment, Agriculture, Automotive, Truck/Transport) considered an asset. A commitment to high quality customer service with a robust people orientation.
