Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in social work, community development, life experience or equivalent.
- Criminal Records Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Personal suitability: a non-substance abuser for at least one year; well into the healing journey; positive attitude to healing; positive interest and supportive attitude toward all individuals and groups in the community and empathy with people of different backgrounds and education.
- Ability to communicate effectively with elders and youth.
- Public support for the LSCFN policies and objectives; ability to work with minimal supervision and cooperatively with individuals and groups; willingness to train and be trained; responsible, qualified attitude to work; demonstration of a positive role model in the community, non-participant in lateral abuse.
- Skills and knowledge: familiarity with Northern Tutchone language and culture; knowledge of high-risk groups such as overdose awareness, mental health issues, providing support to Indian Residential School survivors, pregnant women at risk for substance abuse, etc.; well-developed oral and written communication skills; computer skills; project management skills.
Main Duties
- Support and assist citizens with high-risk outreach and residential school related issues through case management, programming, and support groups.
- Provide outreach in the community with individuals and families.
- Work closely with First Nations, government and non-profit services, agencies, officials, the RCMP, and elsewhere to:
- Refer and support citizens to access the assistance of other appropriate agencies, including assistance with class action applications.
- Follow-up and prepare supports by working closely with citizens, family, friends and other resources.
- Work towards changing the culture of the community on the widespread acceptance and education of high-risk initiatives by facilitating workshops in the community, in the school, and promotional advertising.
- Assist in the development and implementation of prevention strategies.
- Fully participate in program planning with the Wellness Team.
