ABOUT THE TEAM The People Services team at RRC Polytech is a collaborative partner to leaders and employees across the College. We deliver programs in strategic HR advisory, talent acquisition, labour and employee relations, classification, compensation, employee experience, and organizational development,
ensuring our people practices are fair, inclusive, and future focused. Guided by the College’s In Front of What’s Ahead strategy, we strive to create a workplace where every employee feels supported, valued, and empowered to succeed.
WHAT YOU WILL DO The Human Resource Specialist provides day-to-day human resource advice and guidance to managers and employees, and works alongside the Human Resource Business Partners to put strategic HR initiatives into practice. The role supports labour and employee relations, workplace investigations, performance management, classification, disability management, and organizational change, and interprets the collective agreement, College policy and employment legislation for client areas. It also analyzes HR metrics to support informed decision making and contributes to the research, development and implementation of HR programs, policy and training across the College.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- Diploma or degree in Human Resource Management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Several years of generalist human resource experience in a large organization, with skills in recruitment and selection, employee and labour relations, investigations, classification, contract and collective agreement interpretation, and disability management
- Experience delivering human resource services in a unionized environment, including interpreting and applying a collective agreement
- Experience delivering training, with demonstrated presentation skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of organizational development planning, change management and workforce analytics
- Effective decision making and problem solving skills, with the ability to resolve conflict through influence and negotiation
- Exceptional organizational, project and time management skills, with the ability to deal with shifting priorities and simultaneous demands
- Exceptional communication skills, including verbal, written and active listening
- Demonstrated sound judgement and discretion, with the ability to maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive employee and labour relations matters
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to build trust and foster relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
NICE TO HAVE
- CPHR designation. Candidates actively working toward their CPHR are encouraged to apply
- Experience conducting or supporting formal workplace investigations, including intake, assessment of facts and written findings
- Experience with human resource information systems and reporting tools to support HR transactions, metrics and dashboards
- Experience supporting accommodation and return to work planning in partnership with a disability management specialist

- Salary Range for this position: $76,437 - $102,375 per annum
- Generous Paid Vacation: full-time employees accumulate a minimum of 15-days vacation per year, increasing to 30 days with service, while full-time Instructors accumulate 44 days per year. Information on casual and part time vacation accrual is outlined in the Collective Agreement or the Terms and Conditions for Excluded Employees as applicable
- December Break: employees receive time off with pay during the period between Boxing Day and Recent Year's Day
