Company Description:
SiteMax is project management software for construction. Our customers are general contractors and trades, the people who run job sites, and they use us every day for reporting, drawings, scheduling, time tracking and budgets. We're a small team, so your work gets in front of customers quickly and you'll know the reason behind what you're building.
Role Description:
We're looking for a general developer, weighted toward front-end work and investigation. The day to day involves:
- Building and adjusting customer-facing features, forms and workflows
- Investigating reported issues and working out what is happening and why
- Regular development work across our products as you get up to speed
This is a flexible position. Priorities move around on a small team, so we want someone adaptable who is comfortable picking up what the week needs Where we'd expect you to get to:
- Around three months: handling most day-to-day customer-driven work on your own
- Three to six months: taking on regular development work alongside it
You'll have close support from a mentor throughout, and we plan to put proper time into getting you there.
What we're looking for:
- You can read and work in code you didn't write. That counts for more here than writing something from scratch.
- Curiosity about why something broke, and the patience to find out.
- You can explain a technical thing clearly to someone non-technical.
- You're comfortable asking a question early instead of guessing for two days.
What our ideal candidate has:
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field
- Robust communication skills. Much of this role is understanding what someone
else is describing, then explaining what you found.
- 1 to 2 years of experience with the standard web stack (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
- Back-end development experience, ideally in PHP
- Experience with Git or another version control system
- Experience working with relational databases and SQL
Our main product is an established codebase with a lot of history in it. If you like understanding how large systems work after years of real use, you'll find plenty of that here.
Details:
- Salary: CAD $50,000 to $60,000, depending on experience
- Compensation review: Every six months
- Location: Downtown Vancouver, beside Waterfront Station and directly on transit. Two days a week remote after a successful three-month review.
- Eligibility: You must be legally entitled to work in Canada. We're not able to sponsor visas.
