Justice Supports Branch, Strategy Support and Integrated Initiatives Division

This position is part of Alberta Law Libraries (ALL), a province-wide network of law libraries within the Justice Supports Branch. Alberta Law Libraries supports access to justice by connecting people with legal information, research services, and specialized resources. Serving both the public and the legal community, ALL plays an important role in helping Albertans find reliable legal information and better understand the law.

Role Responsibilities

Are you a customer-focused professional who enjoys helping people find information and supporting essential public services? Alberta Law Libraries is seeking a part-time Law Library Assistant to join our Edmonton team. Reporting to the Team Lead, you will provide front-line client service, administrative support, and operational assistance that helps ensure Albertans and legal professionals have access to valuable legal information resources.

As a Law Library Assistant, you will:

Client and Reference Services

- Welcome and assist clients in person, by telephone, and through electronic channels.
- Help clients locate legal information, library resources, court forms, and self-help materials.
- Support users in accessing print and electronic legal resources.
- Assist clients with library equipment, including computers, printers, photocopiers, and scanners.
- Deliver circulation services while maintaining confidentiality when handling sensitive information.

Business and Financial Support

- Process cash transactions and prepare deposits.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.

Library Operations and Collections

- Assist with collection maintenance, shelving, inventory, and circulation activities.
- Maintain pamphlets, booklets, and public legal information resources.
- Assist with the receipt, processing, distribution, and retention of library materials.
- Help maintain an organized, accessible, and welcoming library environment.





Administrative and Operational Coordination

- Coordinate incoming and outgoing mail and courier services.
- Support records management and administrative processes.
- Liaise with service providers regarding equipment maintenance and operational needs.
- Contribute to branch projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma and a minimum of three (3) years of related experience in a library, administrative support, customer service, information services, or office environment. Equivalency: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

Assets and preferences will be considered as follows:

- Experience working in a library, information services, or records management environment.
- Library Technician Diploma or related post-secondary education.
- Experience providing front-line customer service to diverse client groups.
- Experience working with legal information resources, court forms, or public legal information services.
- Experience using library systems, databases, or electronic information resources.
- Experience supporting administrative processes and records management.
- Experience handling cash transactions and maintaining accurate records.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and Adobe Acrobat).

Notes

Hours of Work: Permanent, Part-time role with weekly work hours of 29, Monday to Friday. Salary: Please note that the salary listed above has been prorated to reflect the 0.80 FTE (29 hours per week) work schedule.
