About the Role
Our client, a distinguished architectural practice with a passion for preserving and revitalizing historical structures, is seeking a highly experienced Lead Heritage Architect to join their team in Kimberley . This pivotal role involves leading projects focused on the conservation, adaptive reuse, and sensitive modernization of heritage buildings. You will be instrumental in guiding design approaches that respect historical integrity while meeting contemporary functional and regulatory requirements. We are looking for a dedicated skilled with a deep appreciation for architectural history and a proven ability to navigate the complexities of heritage conservation in Gauteng .
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural design and planning for heritage conservation and adaptive reuse projects.
- Conduct thorough assessments of heritage buildings, including historical research and condition analysis.
- Develop design strategies and documentation that respect the architectural significance and integrity of heritage assets.
- Liaise with heritage authorities, conservation bodies, and regulatory agencies throughout the project lifecycle.
- Oversee the coordination of specialized consultants,
including conservation scientists and structural engineers.
- Ensure all interventions comply with national and provincial heritage legislation and guidelines.
Requirements
- Professional Architect registration (PrArch) with SACAP.
- A minimum of 10 years of architectural experience, with a substantial focus on heritage architecture and conservation.
- Demonstrated expertise in the conservation, restoration, and adaptive reuse of historic buildings.
- In-depth knowledge of heritage legislation, policies, and best practices in South Africa.
- Proficiency in architectural design software and strong skills in technical documentation.
- Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills.
