As a Counsel at ivari in this new position you will be working in a small, collegial legal department of a fast-paced financial services company, providing legal advice to internal customers in a timely and professional manner, with an opportunity to engage in both strategic and day-to-day business and compliance issues. You will report to the Senior Counsel and support a broad range of life insurance, product development, distribution, regulatory and compliance matters.

Provide practical, risk-based legal advice to stakeholders across the organization in support of ivari's business operations. Assist with product development, marketing reviews, and the drafting, interpretation and revision of policy contracts, providing legal support throughout the product lifecycle. Provide legal support for policyholder matters and insurance operations.

Support the Compliance department with market conduct matters and regulatory developments. Perform thorough legal research to support informed decision-making. Stay informed about industry trends and legal developments.

Assist with mentoring and supporting junior legal staff.



Provide legal support for special projects as they arise. Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario. A minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience, preferably in the financial services, insurance, or other regulated industries.

Experience advising on regulatory matters and compliance obligations.

Experience advising on corporate governance matters.

Experience supporting product development , including drafting policy contracts and reviewing marketing materials.

Experience advising on policyholder matters, insurance operations and life insurance products is an asset. Knowledge of estates law and its application to life insurance products, beneficiary designations and death claims is an asset. Business-minded, with the ability to provide practical solutions that support business objectives while appropriately managing legal risk Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Self-motivated and able to provide timely, practical legal advice to stakeholders at all levels in a skilled and client-focused manner. Strong analytical skills to assess complex legal issues. Bilingual reading and drafting skills are an asset.
