DAAC designs, manufactures and maintains automated material handling systems for the aviation industry, including conveyor systems, automated guided vehicles, and storage‑and‑retrieval solutions.
Position Summary
The Mechanical Engineer II works within the Airport Baggage Handling Engineering Team, reporting to the Chief Engineer and collaborating with the Lead Senior Mechanical Engineer and Project Engineer. The role focuses on designing and finalizing mechanical layouts, power‑transmission systems, and commissioning plans for baggage handling projects across the airport.
Responsibilities
- Engage in the design and development of mechanical conveyor systems for Airport Baggage Handling projects in AutoCAD 2‑D and 3‑D.
- Create detailed shop drawings and conduct design checks.
- Prepare specifications, drawings and process descriptions for manufacturing, fabrication and subcontracting.
- Design/select conveyor equipment and power‑transmission components.
- Order mechanical equipment at the engineering level while coordinating with Purchasing and vendors.
- Participate in testing, installation and commissioning activities, both office and site‑based.
- Support proposals and inquiries to promote future product sales.
- Maintain project schedule and budget adherence.
- Attend design review meetings and contribute to team efforts.
Basic Knowledge
- Engineering and Technology – Application of engineering science and technology principles to design and production.
- Production and Processing – Understanding of raw materials, production processes, quality control, cost measurement and efficient distribution.
- English Language – Ability to read, understand and communicate in English.
Experience & Education
- B.A. in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical degree, or a combination of relevant work experience in industrial automation or material‑handling system design.
- 3–5 years of experience.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 2‑D and 3‑D.
- Fluency in French and English.
- Membership in the Order of Engineers of Québec (OIQ) required.
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor – preferred.
- Experience with Autodesk Revit – preferred.
- Experience with material‑handling systems – preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements
Remain stationary 50 % of the time, move throughout offices, operate computer equipment, inspect documents, and communicate verbally. Ability to maneuver through an industrial conveyor system, climb access ladders, negotiate catwalks, and lift or carry objects up to 40 lb.
