As the National Chief Psychologist, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team that takes pride in supporting RCMP divisional occupational health teams across Canada to ensure the development and application of policies and provision of program guidance.

Looking to offer professional psychological and mental health policies, programs and services in a secure, dynamic law enforcement environment?The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Ottawa is seeking a dedicated National Chief Psychologist to provide guidance for the provision of professional psychological and mental health policies, programs and services impacting RCMP members across the country to ensure member fitness for duty and the prevention of illness and injury.

Intent of the process The immediate need is to staff one position on an indeterminate basis, with a linguistic profile of Bilingual Imperative CBC/CBC and an Enhanced Reliability Status with Top Secret security clearance.A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.Should a RCMP Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

EDUCATION

- Graduation with a master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in personnel psychology, psychometrics, industrial psychology, clinical psychology or some other specialty relevant to the position.Note:

The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION

- Registered Psychologist in good standing in a province or territory of Canada.

EXPERIENCE

- *Significant and recent experience developing policies, planning, delivering and evaluating psychological programs and mental health services in occupational health, in one of the following sectors: public health, law enforcement, or military context (which may include Veterans).
- *Significant and recent experience overseeing or delivering an occupational psychology health assessment program offered to employees working in high risk sectors.
- Significant experience preparing and presenting reports and recommendations to stakeholders and management.Note:

*Significant and recent experience is defined as five (5) years of experience obtained within the last ten (10) years.

- Knowledge of the ethical principles with providing psychological and mental health care services.
- Knowledge of psychometric material used to assess psychological fitness for duty.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION

- Ph.D. from a recognized university with acceptable specialization in clinical adult psychology or forensic or psychological services.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE

- Experience working with specialized units within police or military organizations.
- Experience in the clinical practice of adult psychology within health care provider organizations (i.e. hospital, medical clinic, psychiatric treatment centres, OSI clinics etc.).
- Experience in applied research or holding an active academic affiliation
- Experience with inter-agency or inter-departmental projects and working groups
