Nurse Practitioner, Substance Use Disorder Service (SUDS) Nurse Practitioner - (OPSEU) Part-Time, Permanent Two positions available This posting is the result of a current vacancy - We believe that everyone has the right to access supports that will foster growth and allow them to live with dignity, and independence in our community The SUDS Program supports individuals who are presenting to the Emergency Department at London Health Sciences Centre. This is a front-line, clinical position providing addiction medicine, crisis intervention, and system navigation related to substance use health. This position provides support and care pathways to community-based addiction and mental health services in a collaborative manner to reduce avoidable, unnecessary and repeat emergency department visits.

As a Nurse Practitioner, you will be working with addiction counsellors, nurses, primary care providers, emergency room physicians and other community health service providers in offering addiction medical support for individual clients living with mental illness and addiction through a harm-reduction lens.

What you'll be making - Starting rate for this role is $65.69 per hour(Level 1 of the Nurse PractitionerGrid ); Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8, $70.87per hour Saturday-Sunday 10am-6pm, includinga 1-hour unpaid lunch Your pension plan – Immediately eligible for optional enrollmentin the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) Maintain requirements for practice, including a license for a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class,

Proficient in computer skills and experience with electronic medical record systems (i.e. Demonstrate ability, commitment to and knowledge of community addictions and mental health care.

The Nurse

Practitioner will provide Health Care Services to London Health Sciences Centre patients presenting to the Emergency Department: Exhibit knowledge of evidence-informed guidelines, legislation, regulation and organizational policies when prescribing controlled drugs/substances (CDS). Provide health care services to clients 18 years and older that meet eligibility. Provide leadership and guidance for the development of expanded medical services at CMHA TVAMHS Perform comprehensive care using advanced health assessment, physical examination, therapeutic management, consultation, collaboration and referrals.

Work in collaboration with consulting physician and the inter-professional team to provide client-centered health care services. Support the health needs of individuals with a history of addictions, mental health and other chronic illnesses and refer to specialists and other community agencies Determine the need for follow-up appointments and assist with transfer of care to permanent primary health care services. Coordinate service provision with other health care partners in the development of community care plans and wrap-around services.





Promote the integration of addiction-based medicine and emergency care Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 5 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

Current First

Aid and CPR certification Master’s Degree ~ Training to administer Naloxone ~ 2 years of community health care experience ~ Experience in addiction medicine and harm reduction ~ Excellent knowledge of community resources in the region relevant to clients, including other mental health and addiction services, entitlement and benefit programs (e.g. ODSP, Ontario Works, London Housing) ~ Knowledge of range of crisis prevention and intervention approaches including crisis prevention strategies, crisis planning, crisis intervention, risk assessment, relapse prevention strategies, crisis services and hospital services ~ Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation ~ Knowledge of WHMIS, fire, health, and safety procedures ~ Bilingual both official languages, preferred; Our recruitment process allows us to learn about your previous work experience, your qualifications and your commitment to fulfilling our vision.
