Role Description The Origination Analyst is a full time, on-site role based in Calgary, AB. This position supports the deal origination process by analyzing commercial real estate opportunities, preparing financial models, and assisting with underwriting for debt and equity investments.
The Origination
Analyst will help gather and review market data, conduct due diligence on properties and sponsors, and prepare investment memoranda and internal presentations. Day-to-day tasks include coordinating with internal teams and external partners, tracking deal pipelines, maintaining up-to-date records in internal systems, and supporting the preparation of term sheets and credit applications. The role also involves contributing to market research,
monitoring portfolio performance indicators, and assisting with special projects that enhance origination efficiency and investor reporting.
Qualifications
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including financial modeling, cash flow analysis, and valuation techniques for commercial real estate.
- Knowledge of commercial real estate markets and asset classes (e.g., multi-family, retail, office, industrial, hospitality, senior housing, land development).
- Experience or education related to credit underwriting, risk assessment, and due diligence for debt and equity transactions.
- Proficiency with Excel and other financial analysis tools; familiarity with real estate or lending software is an asset.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare concise investment summaries and presentations.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, including attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple transactions simultaneously.
- Team-oriented working style and professional interpersonal skills to engage with internal teams, borrowers, brokers, and investors.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, real estate, business, economics, or a related field; progress toward or interest in professional designations (e.g., CFA, AACI, real estate-focused credentials) is considered an advantage.
- Demonstrated initiative, curiosity about capital markets and real estate, and a commitment to learning within a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
