The Waterloo Catholic District School Board serves over 38,000 learners and provides services to students in 53 schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12 and adult learners) across the Waterloo Region.

General Description of Duties:
The Human Resources Assistant is the initial point of contact for staff, and supervisors, and union representatives providing front-line support related to collective agreements, Board procedures, staffing, and employee inquiries within a unionized educational environment. The role supports HR Officers with staffing processes, leaves, perks, and HR system administration, exercising sound judgment, and maintaining confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the first point of contact for staff, union inquiries, and supervisors regarding collective agreement interpretation and Board procedures
- Support the HR Officer with annual staffing processes, including layoffs, surplus, and recall activities
- Post positions, coordinate staffing workflows, and support supply coverage requirements
- Screen applications and credentials and recommend candidates for interviews
- Review, approve, and administer employee leave requests, including ESA and collective agreement leaves
- Facilitate onboarding and new hire orientation sessions
- Enter, update, and maintain employee job, payroll, and leave information in HR information systems
- Liaise with benefit trust vendors to respond to inquiries and support the accurate administration of CUPE EWBT benefits
- Provide timely, accurate HR information to employees, supervisors,
administrators, Payroll, and Pension staff
M inimum Requirements:
- Two ‑ year post ‑ secondary diploma in Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in human resources administration, preferably in a unionized or public ‑ sector environment
- Working knowledge of employment legislation, collective agreements, and Board ‑ level procedures
- Strong knowledge of HRIS platforms (iSYS, Edsembli, Apply to Education) and Applicant Tracking Systems and Microsoft applications.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, customer ‑ service, and communication skills
- Ability to exercise independent judgment, manage competing priorities, and maintain confidentiality
Desired Assets:
- CHRP designation is considerted an asset
Salary Range: Level 3, $69,591.53 - $81,870.19 per year in accordance with the PASS Terms of Employment.
Hours of Work: Temporary, full-time, 35 hours per week / 52 weeks per year (Contract period: As soon as possible to October 31, 2026)
Location(s): Catholic Education Centre, 35 Weber Street West, Unit A, Kitchener, Ontario.
On- Site Work Requirement s :
The successful incumbent is to be available to work on-site a minimum of three (3) days per week. During peak operational periods, this position may be required to work on-site up to five (5) days per week to support organizational needs.
