Job Summary

The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) is seeking skilled individuals to conduct investigations on a daily basis. Reporting to the Captain, Criminal Investigations, of the Nunavik Police Service (NPS), the Sergeant Investigator directs investigations and carries out or supervises special missions.

Responsibilities

- Participating in planning and conducting police investigations.
- Analyzing evidence gathered to reconstruct the sequence of events.
- Preparing an investigation plan based on available data.
- Employing interrogation techniques according to case law and precedents, investigative training standards, or experience in the field.
- Recruiting informants and maintaining contact.
- Participating with the Crown Attorney in court proceedings of cases under investigation by submitting evidence in a chronological and logical manner and by presenting the evidence to the court.
- Maintaining regular communication with police officers coordinating investigations, or team leaders, and providing them with updates on ongoing investigations.
- Maintaining regular communication with all those involved in the investigations.
- Gathering information on crime prevention and investigations involving drug and alcohol smuggling.
- Establishing and maintaining working relationships with the public, socio-economic and community partners, and government agencies.
- Having a comprehensive understanding of the problems caused by the major criminal activities taking place in the territory.
- Overseeing and assisting NPS patrol officers when participating in investigations while respecting the chain of command.
- Maintaining knowledge of case law, as well as legal and judicial documentation, up to date.
- Performing any other task as required by his/her supervisor.

Requirements





- Meets the minimum requirements to be hired as a police officer in Quebec, in accordance with section 115 of the Police Act (CQLR, c. P-13.1).
- Successful completion of the ENPQ’s Programme de formation initiale en enquête policière (the Quebec police academy’s police investigation basic training program) or meets the equivalency standards established by ENPQ regulations.
- Minimum 5 years experience as an investigator.
- Completion of training in non-suggestive interviewing of children and sexual assault cases is an asset.
- Valid class 4A driver’s licence.
- Excellent oral and written skills in French and English.

The applicant must possess superior teamwork, networking, and relationship‑building skills; be able to maintain composure and demonstrate self‑control; have solid planning, organizational, and problem‑solving skills; be detail‑oriented and rigorous; have a capacity for analysis and synthesis; be able to conduct investigations; be capable of developing and preparing evidence and presenting it in court; be familiar with community and cultural issues, policing in general, the intelligence process, conflict‑management practices and applicable legislation, as well as NPS policies, procedures, and strategies; and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and be capable of acting ethically, thoroughly, autonomously, and discreetly.

Annual Salary

$113,010.80 (2023)

Expense account for the period worked in Nunavik, group insurance, RRSP, employer‑paid accommodation when working in Northern villages.

Working Schedule

On rotation, 2 weeks’ work in Northern villages (11 hours a day for 14 days), followed by 2 weeks’ paid leave (average of 38.5 hours a week).
