The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves andthe development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.
Job Information
The Department of Finance is seeking a robust researcher and writer with an interest in public policy and legislation.
The Policy Analyst conducts research and analysis, drafts and edits policy documents, supports legislative development activities, and assists with the preparation of briefing materials, correspondence, and other departmental communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, develop, and maintain policies, procedures, and legislative materials.
- Conduct analysis and provide policy related research support.
- Prepare and edit briefing notes, correspondence and speaking materials.
- Maintain policy tracking and reporting systems.
- Support legislative and departmental initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Qualifications
- A university degree in a related discipline with two years of relevant experience.
- A post-secondary diploma in a related discipline with four years of relevant experience.
- All other equivalencies will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
- Related education disciplines can include, but are not limited to:
- Social Sciences
- Business Administration
- Political Science
- Related experience can include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting policy, legislative, program, or regulatory research and analysis.
- Developing, evaluating, or implementing policies, programs, strategies, or initiatives.
- Preparing briefing notes, reports, recommendations, decision papers, or strategic advice for senior management.
- Interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, standards, or government policies.
