The Product Development Engineer is responsible for planning and implementing the product/component selection or development activities resulting from requirements driven by the product roadmap, specific product requests from delivery projects and obsolescence mitigation activities.
What You'll Do Create new part information data and entry into the OSI database
Maintain part information data for existing parts in the OSI database
Check components' approval, and certifications Provide component technical support within the OSI organization
Validate that the component can either be manufactured or purchased
Classify the components as per the OSI classification scheme
Identify critical components to be monitored for EOL and PCN notices
Analyze End of Life (EOL) and Product Change Notices (PCN) information, flagging obsolete parts, writing CR/CN’s when required
Recommend risk buying for recent discontinuation or EOL
Identify recent potential suppliers for components
Make recommendations on parts to be made obsolete
Make recommendations for replacements of obsolete parts
Ensure replacement component suitability by creating and reviewing where used reports
Compare component specifications and make recommendations for 2nd source qualification
New component/product functional evaluation and testing Applies judgment and makes decisions to solve engineering issues related to products/components. Decision making authority within the confines of product development activities.
Carries out authority as a reviewer on the revision and release of parts and documents in the PDX database.
Timely, prudent judgment must be exercised to address unusual exceptions to the established procedures in order to prevent potentially unlimited contractual, legal and financial risks to the corporation. The ability to properly refer matters to other experts when required is critical.

What You'll Bring Engineering degree or Technology diploma Exposure to specifying and sourcing of mechanical, electric and electronic equipment and parts
Experience with equipment for marine applications an asset
Experience reading various IEC/ISO/MIL standards an asset
