We are seeking a dynamic Project Cargo Specialist with expertise in both sales and operations support to plan, coordinate, and execute large-scale project cargo moves. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing complex logistics projects, including heavy lift, oversized, and specialized cargo shipments, while delivering exceptional customer service. This position requires strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as an ability to work closely with clients, vendors, and internal teams to ensure the successful execution of project cargo movements.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales & Business Development:
- Lead Generation & Client Acquisition: Identify and pursue potential clients needing project cargo solutions, particularly in industries like energy, construction, oil & gas, and manufacturing.
- Solution Design: Work with customers to understand their unique logistics requirements and develop tailored project cargo solutions, including route planning, mode selection, and pricing strategies.
- Prepare Proposals & Quotations: Prepare and present detailed project cargo proposals, including cost analysis, operational feasibility, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and service providers to ensure long-term partnerships.
- Market Research: Stay up-to-date with market trends, freight rates, and emerging technologies in the logistics industry to offer competitive and innovative solutions.
Operations & Execution:
- Project Planning & Coordination: Manage all operational aspects of project cargo shipments from inception to completion, including scheduling, equipment selection, and coordination with carriers, ports, and warehouses.
- Documentation & Compliance:
Ensure all necessary shipping documentation, permits, and customs clearances are prepared and obtained in a timely manner, adhering to international shipping regulations and compliance standards.
- Vendor Management: Liaise with transport providers, port authorities, crane operators, and other key stakeholders to ensure proper handling of oversized and heavy cargo.
- Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Identify potential risks and challenges in the transportation process, such as route restrictions, regulatory hurdles, and environmental conditions, and develop contingency plans to address them.
- Budget Management: Monitor project costs and work within budgetary constraints while ensuring high-quality service delivery.
- Reporting & KPIs: Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), such as delivery times, cost efficiency, and client satisfaction, to ensure operational excellence.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including sales, customer service, finance, and legal, to ensure smooth coordination of project activities.
- Customer Support: Act as the primary point of contact for clients during the project lifecycle, providing regular updates and resolving issues promptly.
- Post-Project Review: Conduct post-project evaluations with clients and internal teams to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, business, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in project cargo logistics, with a strong understanding of both sales and operational processes.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of multimodal transportation (ocean, air, road, and rail), especially for oversized or heavy cargo.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present proposals and negotiate with clients and vendors effectively.
- Analytical Thinking: Robust problem-solving and analytical abilities to manage complex logistics challenges and optimize cargo moves.
- Attention to Detail: Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and maintain accurate records.
- Proficiency: Proficient in logistics management software, MS Office, and other relevant tools.
- Certifications (preferred): Certifications in project management, freight forwarding, or logistics (e.g. Dangerous Goods, PMP, FIATA) are a plus.
- Language Skills: Multilingual abilities are advantageous for working with international clients and stakeholders.
