The Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture at McGill University is seeking a part-time Research Assistant (RA2) to support research activities for “Early Warning Architecture,” Canada's Official Representation at the 2027 Venice Architecture Biennale. The project examines historical and contemporary sites across Canada where early warning systems have been deployed, exploring their architectural, environmental, technological, and social dimensions. The successful candidates will contribute to the research informing the exhibition, working collaboratively with the project team to identify, document, and analyze relevant case studies.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Research Supervisor, the Research Assistant 2 will assist with research activities using established protocols and methodologies with minimal supervision. The incumbent will conduct independent and collaborative research, compile and synthesize findings, and contribute to ongoing project discussions and development.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct research on historical and contemporary Canadian sites where early warning systems have been or are currently deployed.
- Perform literature and bibliographic reviews related to the research project.
- Identify and evaluate relevant online resources, databases, and publications.
- Conduct archival research and visits to archives, libraries, and other research repositories as required.
- Collect, organize, and analyze research materials and findings.
- Prepare summaries, reports, and presentations of research results for weekly project meetings.
- Maintain accurate documentation of sources and research activities.




- Support the research team in meeting project objectives and deadlines.

Required Qualifications

- Master's degree in Architecture, Urban Studies, Landscape Architecture, History, Geography, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline.
- Specialized knowledge of the relevant field acquired through graduate-level studies.
- Demonstrated research experience, including literature reviews and archival research.
- Robust analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively to a collaborative research team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Hourly Salary: $32.15

Hours per Week: 30 (Part time)
