RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. Position Summary

Department / Research Program: Ophthalmology

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to lead technical and experimental operations within the MUHC Ophthalmology Simulation Laboratory. Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator, the incumbent will manage key projects focused on research, device development, AI surgical video analytics, microrobotics, wetlab preparation, and simulation. The primary responsibilities include facilitating simulation sessions and wetlabs for residents, designing hardware and software solutions, conducting experimental validations, drafting grant proposals, patent disclosures, and peer-reviewed manuscripts, and supervising students and trainees.

The candidate will serve as a core technical driver across our multi-center ophthalmic research initiatives.

General Duties

- Project &

• Technical Leadership: Design, implement, validate, and oversee experimental protocols for all projects.
- Hardware &

- Software Engineering: Design and develop ophthalmic devices, and produce user applications.
- Publication &
- Grant Preparation: Lead the writing and submission of high-impact research manuscripts, ethics protocol forms, and competitive funding applications.




- Lab Supervision &
- Mentorship: Coordinate daily operations, help train students, residents, and clinical fellows in simulation and wetlab protocols, and manage laboratory equipment maintenance and supplies.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Liaise with HQP, ophthalmologists, biomedical engineers, and external industry partners to translate research prototypes into clinical and educational tools.

Standards of performance

- Consistent project progression and milestone delivery in alignment with grant timelines.
- Coordination of abstract submission to national and international conferences
- Successful submission of peer-reviewed publications in high-impact ophthalmology and biomedical engineering journals.
- Maintain clear, reproducible documentation of experimental methodologies.
- Effective leadership, fostering a collaborative, organized, and compliant laboratory and training environment.

Education / Experience

Education: Postdoctoral Studies

Field of Study: Surgical robotics and ophthalmology innovation

Other education considered an asset for this position: Ph.D in Biomedical Engineering

Required Skills

- This position requires an advanced knowledge of oral and written French.
- An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires regular and complex contact with researchers or international students who are exclusively proficient in English. The position also requires complex writing or in-depth analysis of documents in English related to a research project.

Additional information Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)

Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience

Work Shift: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm
