- Three (3) months of recent Birthing Unit experience
- Current BCLS and NRP certification as per the College of Nurses of Ontario standards
- Theoretical knowledge of the care of obstetrical patients and newborns, and ability to apply this knowledge in a clinical setting
- Demonstrates a sound knowledge of the nursing process
- Demonstrates a professional and respectful attitude to patients, to the public and to colleagues
- Demonstrates the ability to work effectively as an active member of the health care team
- Identifies a commitment to personal continuing education activities
- Demonstrates an understanding of the application and relevance of the continuous quality improvement activities
- Demonstrates understanding of and willingness to facilitate clinical research activities into patient care
- Baccalaureate of Nursing
- Completion of or enrollment in Obstetrical High Risk Courses




- Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) membership
- Proficiency in English and French oral expression (level 4 - advanced) and comprehension (level 4 - advanced).

Hospital uses a 5-level language proficiency scale to define the required level of language skills in English and in French for positions at the Hospital, and to evaluate job candidate language skills. Language proficiency requirements are based on the nature of the position and the level of interaction with French and English-speaking clients.
