The Opportunity

Position Title: SecurityReports To: Coordinator, SecurityEmployment Type: CasualSchedule: As Relief staff, you will help support staffing coverage for vacations, sick leave, and other absences. Relief shifts are assigned on an as-needed basis, offering flexibility while supporting the needs of the organization. Shifts are days (7AM – 7PM) or nights (7PM – 7AM).Location: 1 Dermot Baldwin Way SE, Calgary, Alberta

What You’ll Do

Every role at the DI makes a difference. In this position, you will: Champion a safe, welcoming setting by fostering security by approaching every situation with humility, compassion, and a commitment to dignity for all.

Lead with calmness and respect during high-pressure situations, utilizing non-violent crisis intervention strategies to achieve safe, respectful, and positive outcomes, including when individuals must be asked to leave the premises.

Serve as a trusted and approachable resource, engaging with clients, volunteers, donors, and community members with empathy, respect, and a genuine commitment to helping them find the right supports.

Monitor, patrol, and safeguard the facility and surrounding property through proactive observation, CCTV surveillance, regular security patrols,



and effective communication with the control room, helping ensure a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for clients, staff, volunteers, and community members.

Play a vital role in maintaining a safe and welcoming community by providing a visible 24/7 security presence, collaborating with emergency responders while remaining alert, responsive, and prepared to meet the physical and dynamic demands of maintaining a safe environment for all.

What we need from you Alberta Security License is MANDATORY

Experience working in distress and/or high-stress situations, which may include emergency response

Energetic and self-directed, with effective time management and organizational skills including the ability to deal with several priorities at the same time

Resiliency and stress tolerance and the ability to maintain composure, remain calm and focused when dealing with a high volume of volatile and stressful situations The ability to make sound rational decisions based on information provided and employ critical thinking where information may not be clear

Well-developed interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiating skills

High morals, ethics and integrity

Ability to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check A genuine commitment to the mission, vision, values, and work of the agency Nice to Have’s Completion of a college or university program in any of the following; human services, police sciences, criminology or other related programs is a definite asset

Previous work experience or background in military or law enforcement may replace formal education requirements

Experience in the human services field would be an asset

Experience with CCTV, access control systems and fire response systems is an asset

Resourcefulness and knowledge of community resources and social support systems
