Senior Electrical Designer - Hydropower & Dams Job Level: Senior Level Market: Employment Type: Full Time Kiewit is seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to play a key role in the design and delivery of complex hydropower, dam, and hydraulic structure projects across North America. As a key member of Kiewit’s Hydropower, Dams, and Hydraulic Structures (HDH) team, you will contribute to the planning and constructable design of electrical systems for major infrastructure projects, including traditional and pumped-storage hydropower facilities. You will collaborate closely with Design Engineers as well as other discipline teams (structural, mechanical, hydrotechnical) to provide various design services to internal groups for the development of HDH projects.

Remote or hybrid work arrangements may be considered Occasional travel will be required.
Support the electrical systems design for HDH projects in coordination with the existing Kiewit design teams as needed (structural, mechanical, piping etc.) Lead the preparation of electrical design deliverables, including drawings, lists and schedules in coordination with electrical engineers. Support in the preparation and coordination HDH electrical design packages Collaborate closely with internal engineering teams, construction personnel, and external design partners. Mentor and support the development of junior and intermediate designers through technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive team environment focused on quality, safety, and continuous improvement. Support business development efforts, including pursuits and technical proposals. Contribute to the growth and evolution of the HDH practice through strategic initiatives, lessons learned, and continuous improvement.
Quality & Safety Lead by example in promoting a strong culture of safety, quality, and accountability. Support implementation and continuous improvement of the design quality management system. 10+ years of relevant experience in the design of electrical systems with experience in Hydropower considered an asset.
Electrical equipment layouts and general arrangements ~ Embedded grounding, cable tray systems and duct banks ~ Hardwired control circuits ~ Process and Instrumentation (considered an asset) ~ Lighting systems, including control ~ Building security, fire detection and telecommunication systems (working knowledge considered an asset) Registered technologist or equivalent considered Proficiency in the application of the most prominent electrical-related Codes, Norms, Standards and guidelines, most notably ANSI/IEEE and NEC Proficiency in 2D CAD software such as Autocad for drawing preparation Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as Revit Control schematics Wiring diagrams Bills of materials On‑site construction experience and ability to view design through a constructability lens Familiarity with the design-build design process, construction/constructability, and typical testing practice Fluent in English (written and spoken).
Fluent in French an asset Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies. Work overtime and weekends as required.
Base Compensation: $43 – 65 CAD/hour.
