ROLE: Senior Developer, Data Engineering – 6 Months Contract REPORTS TO: Manager, Digital Analytics Hybrid / Corporate Office in Richmond Hill, Ontario We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Developer to join our Data Engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in data engineering, with a focus on data modelling, and ensuring data quality. Venterra is currently pursuing a data stack modernization effort to migrate from traditional ETL tools including Informatica and SSIS with SQL Server to a cloud-native ELT stack built on AWS, Python, Airflow, DBT, and Snowflake.
Migrate data models from SQL Server to Snowflake with little oversight. Implement data quality checks and monitoring to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data. Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that meet their needs.
Develop and maintain documentation for data engineering processes and systems. Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to support data integration and analytics. Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies in data engineering and recommend improvements to existing systems.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, a related field or equivalent experience ~7+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field. ~ Strong expertise in SQL and experience with relational databases, Snowflake and Microsoft SQL Server with an emphasis on analytical and ETL use cases. ~ Strong programming skills in Python. ~ Experience with Apache Airflow and being able to design, develop, and maintain scalable data transformation workflows using data build tool (DBT).
~ Knowledge of dimensional modelling techniques and data warehouse schema design. ~ Strong experience building cloud-native solutions using AWS Lambda, ECS and EMR and deploying these services using infrastructure as code via Terraform. ~ Experience working with Git, CI/CD pipelines for database schema evolution and environment management. ~ Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Experience with data modeling and schema design. Knowledge of data governance and data security best practices. Familiarity with machine learning and data science concepts.
