About the Role
Our client is seeking a seasoned Senior Materials Engineer with expertise in chemical applications to join their advanced research and development team in Kimberley . This role focuses on selecting, testing, and qualifying materials for use in demanding chemical processing environments, ensuring durability, safety, and performance. You will play a critical role in material selection for new equipment, troubleshooting material failures, and contributing to innovative solutions for corrosion and material degradation challenges. This position is perfect for a materials science expert who thrives in a challenging R&D; setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and select appropriate materials (metals, polymers, ceramics, composites) for chemical process equipment, considering factors like corrosion, temperature, and pressure.
- Conduct material testing and analysis (e.g., corrosion testing, mechanical testing, failure analysis) to assess performance and identify issues.
- Develop material specifications and quality control procedures for incoming materials and fabricated components.
- Investigate material failures, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with process engineers, design teams,
and suppliers to ensure materials meet project requirements.
- Stay current with advancements in materials science and their applications in the chemical industry.
Requirements
- Master's or Ph.D. in Materials Science , Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in materials engineering, with a focus on chemical industry applications.
- Expertise in corrosion science , materials selection, and failure analysis in aggressive chemical environments.
- Proficiency with materials characterization techniques and equipment.
- Strong understanding of relevant industry standards (e.g., ASTM, NACE).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical reporting skills.
