Position Details

Senior Underwriter, Commercial Lines

Underwrites and prices new business applications, endorsements and renewals on commercial lines policies within a set binding authority to grow and maintain a profitable portfolio.

- Underwrite and price new business applications, endorsements and renewals of complex nature on Commercial Lines policies within set binding authority to grow and maintain a profitable portfolio.
- Maintain in‑force policies and ensure all policies are issued within service standards with the appropriate wordings, schedules, and certificates attached.
- Develop and maintain excellent working relationship with brokers by providing exceptional customer service.
- Work collaboratively to support broker, claims, pricing and accounting inquiries.




- Provide exceptional customer service by answering telephone inquiries, making outgoing calls, responding to emails and/or faxes as may be required.
- Track and produce daily, weekly and monthly production activity reports.
- Assist in monthly business activity reporting.
- Willingness to travel as some travel is required (20%).

Who You Are

- A minimum of 6 to 10 years experience in commercial lines underwriting.
- Post‑secondary education in a related field and/or a CIP designation is required. Working towards FCIP or CRM designation is an asset.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with product development and developing underwriting guidelines.
- Strong product knowledge and thorough understanding of insurance policy wordings with the ability to make sound business decisions based on those wordings.
- Excellent analytical skills and decision‑making skills.
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written; French would be an asset.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
- Able to effectively set priorities to meet deadlines with a strong attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team workplace.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to establish professional relationships.
- Bilingual French & English written and spoken.
