Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Within the context of a patient/client and family-centred framework and continuum-based care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice and the vision, values and policies of the organization, this position assesses, diagnoses and treats the full range of communication and swallowing disorders in inpatient settings and the dysphagia outpatient clinic. Prioritizes referrals, schedules and performs videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS). Completes client reports, provides supportive education/consultation to clients/family, and provides in-service lectures.
Participates in interdisciplinary team rounds, risk management and research, and works in collaboration with the Practice Leader as directed in demonstrating procedures and providing orientation to new staff and Speech-Language Pathology students.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
Current full registration as a Speech Language Pathologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC). Two (2) years’ recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Certified Practice Certificate E: Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Voice and Swallowing (FEEVS).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of evidence based practice.
Demonstrated knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
Demonstrated knowledge of research process and methodology.
Demonstrated knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to independently conduct Videofluoroscopic Assessment of Swallowing Studies (VFSS).
Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to independently conduct Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Voice and Swallowing (FEEVS).
General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally secure care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to operate related computer equipment.
Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
Demonstrated ability to determine and deal effectively with urgent situations, clients/families/residents.
Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver presentations.
Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other healthcare professionals.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
