Role Overview
Alvian builds hardware and software solutions for critical infrastructure providers, including electric utilities, telecommunications, and government operators. This is a hands-on engineering position on the core team, working directly with and mentored by the Chief Technology Officer. The Systems Developer contributes to the measurement and acquisition software, coordination and validation software, and to the testing and validation of the integrated platform.
Early on, this includes hands-on work building and integrating units directly, alongside software development across acquisition, timing validation, and system integration. It is a role with real ownership from day one, and technical depth grows quickly as scope expands
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the platform's acquisition subsystems, developing and validating the acquisition, data-handling, and analysis paths through the capture chain to the platform.
- Develop and test on-platform acquisition and coordination software that ingests measurement and timing data, aligns it to a common time base, and produces structured, time-correlated records.
- Contribute to development of validation software that cross-checks independent references and reports an integrity state.
- Support characterization and stabilization of the data acquisition path, including diagnostic instrumentation and data-integrity analysis.
- Develop and execute test and validation procedures for the integrated platform, including bench validation under representative stimulus and sustained-load conditions.
- Support integration of the subsystems into the platform enclosure, and contribute to compliance and certification testing.
- Document designs, test methods, and results to a explicit, complete, and defensible standard.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary qualification in electrical engineering, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent demonstrated capability).
- Software development ability, particularly for data acquisition, systems, or embedded/Linux environments.
- Understanding of, or strong aptitude to learn, precision timing, measurement, and signal acquisition concepts.
- Ability to work rigorously and independently in areas of technical uncertainty, and to produce accurate, verifiable, well-documented work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with electrical measurement, signal acquisition, or precision measurement instrumentation.
- Experience with embedded Linux, data acquisition hardware, hardware bring-up, bench testing, or test automation.
- Familiarity with precision timing concepts.
- Familiarity with cloud and platform technologies used in modern edge-to-cloud systems, such as AWS, messaging and streaming systems, and modern application stacks,
which support connecting edge devices to platform data and coordination layers.
Attributes
Consistent with Alvian's standards, the successful candidate treats precision, security, and correctness as personal standards; holds complexity without over-simplifying; forms opinions from evidence; raises concerns directly and early; and does their best work in focused, uninterrupted blocks. Alvian assesses both what is delivered and the craftsmanship with which it is delivered.
How We Work
This is a hands-on engineering role that requires regular on-site presence at Alvian's Dundas, Ontario facility to work directly with hardware, including bench testing, hardware integration, and validation on physical units. Software, analysis, and documentation work can be performed with flexibility, including remotely. Within that structure, Alvian is outcome-oriented, with protected focus time for deep work, an async-first and well-documented working culture, and purposeful meetings.
Core collaboration overlap is 11:00 to 15:00 Eastern. The company supports learning and development and a sustainable pace alongside a high standard of technical craftsmanship.
