Position Summary The Grade 7 Teacher in Nak'al Bun Elementary School plans, delivers, and assesses curriculum while deeply integrating local Indigenous language, culture, and land-based education. Can you foster a supportive, culturally safe environment tailored to students' needs while promoting academic achievement alongside cultural identity? If so, we would like to meet with you.
Key Responsibilities Cultural Integration: Integrate elements of the Carrier/Dakelh language, history, traditions, and culture into classroom curriculum.
Curriculum Delivery: Develop and implement lesson plans based on Ministry of Education standards, adapted for local community contexts and diverse learning styles.
Pedagogy: Utilize experiential, land-based learning and traditional teaching methods.
Student Support: Assess student progress regularly, maintain anecdotal records, and create remedial plans to help students achieve potential.
Community Engagement: Actively participate in community events,
engage with parents, and show a commitment to cultural awareness and career development in Indigenous education.
Classroom Management: Establish a positive, safe, and respectful learning environment.
Qualifications Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and a valid Teaching Certificate (e.g., BC Ministry of Education Certification). Demonstrated knowledge of, and sensitivity towards, First Nations culture, history, and community contexts. Proven experience working with Indigenous students or in a similar educational setting. Willingness to learn the Carrier/Dakelh language.
