The Mechanical
Engineer will be part of the Liner Production Operations team responsible for producing one of the key components for General Fusion’s LM26 project. This is an excellent chance for a motivated Mechanical Engineer looking to gain extensive practical engineering skills and experience in a supportive and collaborative environment. Operate custom casting and machining equipment in support of the LM26 project Design, build, commission, and operate components and assemblies that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the various mechanical/pneumatic/electrical systems On-going analysis of past experiments to understand how changes impact machine performance.
Use that understanding to make recommendations to improve future performance Update the various CAD designs of the process, equipment, and as-built models Mechanicaldesign for engineering challenges which require out-of-the-box thinking and novel concepts, including analytical calculations and FEA as required to validate designs Documenting design details, test plans,
and experimental results Due to the operational aspect of this role, evening and weekend shifts will be required on occasion. Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or engineering physics (with mechanical specialization) Minimum 2 years’ relevant post-graduation experience Good knowledge of engineering and physics fundamentals, including statics and dynamics, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics Experience in designing, building and operating prototypes in an R&D; or small volume production setting Mechanical aptitude with a strong desire to work hands-on with the components of the design, including prototyping, operating, analyzing, and iterating Genuine passion for mechanical design, solving problems, and making things work Proven ability to work independently, take initiative, and drive the success of individual projects from start to finish, including collaboration and integration with other teams and systems Good understanding of materials and fabrication methods Experience working with low voltage AC and DC electrical systems Working knowledge of SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM General Fusion considers many factors when determining total compensation, including job-specific or highly specialized knowledge, skills and experience, proficiency, job location and internal equity.
