Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) is the fast‑moving, award‑winning technology engine that powers Scotiabank’s Corporate, Investment Banking and Capital Markets businesses. GBME is searching for Software Engineers who are continuous learners and eager to boost the capabilities of capital markets products and analytics platforms. The successful candidate will have a strong technical and engineering mindset, working closely with business teams and cross‑functional engineering leaders to develop and implement market‑leading solutions for various projects within GBME.

In this exciting role, you’ll apply your analytical skills to design and develop applications that deliver excellence, effectiveness, and value to our business partners and customers. Work closely with end users and business teams to understand business needs, conduct gap analysis and requirements assessments as needed.

Be involved in the full life cycle of a project, responsible for producing actionable and complete specifications, writing production‑quality code, and implementation. Design, deliver and implement a database schema. Design test sets and automate where possible, including functional and non‑functional testing, regression testing, and performance testing.

Write deployment scripts and leverage tools such as the Accelerator pipeline to promote code. Improve the end‑user experience by finding scalable solutions and addressing complex ad‑hoc queries. Effectively communicate with technical and non‑technical audiences.

Participate and run SCRUM meetings as needed.

Technical

Qualifications 4+ years’ experience with a modern programming language such as Java, Python, or .NET/C#. 4+ years’ experience reading, writing, and running SQL scripts.

Experience with data technologies and databases—preferably Postgres, MSSQL, Oracle DB, Apache NiFi, Apache Kafka,



or Apache ElasticSearch—and comfortable working with large datasets.

Experience with UNIX Shell scripting in Sun Solaris/Linux environments.

Experience with Web Services & API.

Experience working in an Agile setting, with an understanding of Test‑Driven Development methodology.

Microsoft Azure

Cloud or Google Cloud (GCP) experience would be an asset. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or relevant experience.

Experience with front‑end technologies such as Angular, React, or JavaScript. Understanding of networking protocols and security principles.
