Accountant
We are seeking a career-minded Accountant to join our finance team in a full-time, long-term capacity. The successful candidate will work directly alongside our current Senior Associate Accountant — initially in tandem across all aspects of the role, and progressively building toward independent ownership of day-to-day, monthly, and annual accounting responsibilities as familiarity with our firm, our systems, and our project portfolio grows.
The pace of that growth is intended to be flexible — paced to the candidate’s development and the firm’s needs over a long horizon. We are looking for someone who values continuity, takes pride in technical accuracy, and sees themselves growing with a respected Manitoba practice.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Day-to-Day
- Process accounts payable — review, code, and post vendor invoices; manage payment runs and vendor inquiries.
- Manage accounts receivable — issue client invoices, monitor aging, and follow up on outstanding accounts.
- Post daily bank, deposit, and credit card activity; maintain general ledger accuracy through timely entries and journal coding.
- Process employee expense submissions, reimbursements, and corporate credit card reconciliations.
- Respond to project managers, principals, and team members on financial questions related to active project files.
Monthly & Recurring
- Run bi-weekly payroll, including source deduction remittances (CPP, EI, income tax), benefits, and vacation accruals.
- Reconcile bank, credit card, and balance sheet accounts at month-end.
- Prepare project work-in-progress (WIP) reports, fee tracking, and consultant disbursement summaries.
- Compile monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for partner review.
- Prepare and remit GST / RST and other recurring regulatory filings.
Annual & Year-End
- Coordinate year-end close and prepare working papers for the firm’s external accountants.
- Support corporate tax filings (federal and Manitoba), T4s, T5s, and related compliance and CRA correspondence.
- Assist in the development of the annual firm budget, cash flow forecast, and partner financial reporting package.
- Prepare schedules and analysis to support the annual partnership review and strategic planning process.
Cross-Firm & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain and refine internal controls, financial workflows, and accounting documentation.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE), payroll regulations, and applicable Manitoba and federal requirements.
- Contribute to ongoing improvement of financial tooling, dashboards, and reporting across the firm.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- CPA designation completed, or actively pursuing CPA designation through CPA Canada / CPA Manitoba.
- 3 to 5 years of professional accounting experience (preferred), preferably within professional services, architecture / engineering, or a similarly project-driven environment
- Working knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE), payroll, GST / RST, and CRA reporting requirements.
- Strong proficiency in accounting software — direct experience with Ajera, Deltek,
or similar A/E platforms is a strong asset; advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and written communication skills, with the ability to translate financial information for non-financial audiences.
- Demonstrated discretion and professionalism with sensitive financial and HR information.
- Genuine interest in a long-term, career position with a Manitoba professional services firm.
